I don't think you included some links from this thread http://forum.brillkids.com/general-discussion-b5/web-links-for-early-learning-resources/

I have wanted a board for helpful sites for a long time. I am the one who is constantly reading through the same links over and over again. I don't make the decision though. But I can guarantee you that there won't be separate sections like what's proposed. We simply don't have the space on the forums for that much organization. If a board is made, I think people will have to make threads for the different topics and then if someone finds another site, they can just add it to the thread. So someone can make a thread for math links and then everyone can just post math links under that thread, and so on. But that may be a problem b/c some people don't post in the right threads, and we may just have to keep moving things around.

The solution you proposed if fine but will tend to turn things a bit messy, IMHO.
My idea is something like the "Video Gallery" where resources are well organized and split into categories (ex. songs, math and so on) from the resource submission.
This way you (the moderators) won't have to worry about moving things around and the users will have their life easier finding things.
Further improvement can be the resource rating to make a "natural selection" among all the contributions.

Like I said, it's not up to me, and those above me think it will be messy any way you look at it.

Hi all,

Ok, so this issue is going higher and higher up the priority list... smile

First of all, thanks very much, ed, for your work so far - it's very helpful indeed. And everyone else too who has contributed (including pushing for a bookmarking system).  smile

Apart from our entire team being swamped by the work that needs to be done to launch the new systems, the biggest issue for me here is how to categorize, and how links are added, the approval process, etc.  What complicates matters is that many sites cover multiple categories. Where would you file such a site?  Would you file multiple links for different parts of the site under multiple sections? If so, where does it end?

What would be ideal would be for the categorization to follow along similar lines as to what we have for our boards and video gallery (ie., Teach baby to read, Teach baby math, etc.), but looking at ed's list of categories, it seems like that won't work very well.

These are some of the things we need to think about before working to do such a system.

If you have thoughts on how the system should work, and esp how they should be categorized, please share your input here!

I don't know if it will be better to use some details of the sites which we recommend, like:
I found this math exercises look and link (always with Links Gallery Wink )
important is some details not all site expecially for our "curriculum feature"  yes

thank you, it's a great list to check
now I've decided to see only one page (internet resources) for a day
what do you think about?
it's important to concetrate by BK!!!!and all presentations which we can translate into our languages (some day...)
I saw all of this site and I think that only 20% can be wievs for our children (from my list)
they are A LOT!!! of strong distraction extras like publicity etc. or the themes image is sorrounded by others, smaller, noiesier, it's distracting
be carefully
this can creat some kind of dipendency, I love to checking all sites (% minutes...) when my babies is playing...but he undertstan that is not ok and later won't see any presentation...

www.starfall.com

Starfall is a scientific, research-based reading materials and activities based on the "Big Five" focus areas recommended by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development: phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension—with the additional area of motivation.  The Starfall program weaves these focus areas together into a cohesive, fun, and entertaining program that kids from pre-kindergarten thru second grade will love!

Motivation: Starfall employs the computer to develop feelings of wonderment and play, not rote assessment. The activities, songs and books complement your classroom by creating an atmosphere of fun and enthusiasm that infuses all aspects of learning. Our online and printed activities use positive reinforcement to guide children in making correct responses. Because students meet success with our activities, they are motivated to want to learn more. You will find that Starfall students of all reading levels are excited and eager to participate. Starfall students who receive personal copies of the materials feel a sense of ownership, responsibility and pride.

Phonemic Awareness: Drawing from the foundational "Alphabetic Principle," of phonics, children learn to recognize the relationship between letters and sounds.
--Online
Starfall ABCs
--Offline                                                                                                                                           ABC Practice Pages

Systematic Phonics:  A sequential phonics method recommended by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development encourages children as they master sound-spelling by listening to, manipulating, and reading through a variety of books and games.
–Online
Learn to Read
--Offline
Level I Journal (Block Print or Manuscript)
Cut Up/ Take Home Books

Vocabulary: Children expand their reading vocabulary and comprehension through exploration of a variety of genres and topics.
--Online
It’s Fun to Read
--Offline
Level II Journal (Tip: Great for students learning English as a second language!)

Fluency: Vocabulary-controlled stories introduce children to words they will frequently encounter in reading. Selections read in their entirety model the qualities of fluent reading: intonation, expression, inflection and rate.
--Online
I'm Reading                                                                                                                                                            --Offline
Download Center: features a large selection of books and activity printables

Comprehension:  As your children develop the above skills they will transition from learning to read to reading to learn—the end goal of all reading instruction. Writing prompts appear site-wide, but more importantly, every activity at Starfall is a springboard for discussion.
