great to know a few uk members are here.i havent really met anyone around me that knows about teaching young children to read so i never tell anyone what i'm doing!

I am in Trowbridge, Wilshire. I have a 19 month old baby boy. As I am French, I teach Jamy in both French and English, using the little reader. Also teaching him maths with Little Maths, but he is less enthusiastic.

We're in South Oxfordshire - I'm British, but bilingual French/English and trying (sometimes failing) to bring my girls (2 and 4) up the same. It's lovely to hear from members in the UK - are there really so few??? And it seems like there are almost none of us who were educated in Britain - can anyone think of a reason?

Hi im very new here
im from lincolnshire in the uk, stumbled across this site a few weeks ago and im now delving a little deeper and trying to understand a little about teaching my 11 month old son how to read using the slideshows, any tips would be greatly recieved (how often should i show them/change to different categories?)
i've been teaching him baby signing since was 5 months old and he's signing back really well now so keen to move on to teaching him other things too.

Hello Lynseybec, I would suggest you read 'how to teach you baby to read' byGlenn Doman, it really explains everything, even though there are lots of information on brillkids about that. I recently bought Your baby can read (Robert Titzer). I'm also teaching her sign language, even though my daughter is just 6 months and not signing yet and not showing she can recognize any words, we're showing the slides to her anyway. You could also consider getting Little reader, there everything is already done, so you just need to click on play and you have the lessons daily.

I know everything might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you'll figure out things really quickly. You could read the 'feeling overwhelmed' article on the brillbaby homepage, sorry not sure how to attach the link.

If you PM me, I could loan you the book if you don't want to buy your own copy, even though you could get a copy from amazon for about £10 or a bit less.

Can somebody please explain to me what happens when kids start school and they can read and write and are far ahead in other things as well. I am from South Africa and don't really know how the UK school system works. I have a 11 month old son and at the moment I am teaching him to read, shapes, colours, numbers, ABC'c, about animals. I have made my own slideshows, we use brainy baby products, I also read to him a lot. I haven't seen any results yet, but i am looking forward to that. Both my son and I enjoy those moments together, for now I am just planting seeds.
