Sharing LR with others/installing on multiple computers

Hi

Can we share LR & LM with others? Can we install the software on 2 different machines i.e. laptop & desktop. Its not online base right? Appreciate members feedback. Thanks

Each license allows installtion on up to 2 different computers at any one time.  If you switch computers, you can write in with details and we will remove the activation records of the old computer(s) to free up a slot (or two) for you.

It's not online based but the programs must communicate with our servers for verification during installation of the license key.

What I wanted to know is if I can download the software simultaneously on 2 machines i.e. on my notebook and desktop. Therefore i can use whichever machine i want whenever I want.

When u said communicate with ur server during installation, do we have to have intrnet connection. can we have a license key for more than 1 pc?

I hope someone is able to answer my question here as I am unable to start a thread of my own. I would like to use LR with two children however it will not let me repeat a lesson or start a lesson where I choose.

Yes, you can.  But note that your playback stats records will not be in sync if you use both computers (ie., if you play back Day 10 on notebook, Desktop will not have that record.)

Yes, you need to have an internet connection when you install the license key for verification.  The same license key can be installed on up to 2 computers.  If you change computers later, you can write in with details and we will allow you to transfer your license from one computer to another.

I still dont understand not being in sync part. If I purchase the software, why cant I use it on multiple computers??? It would belong to me then why the restriction? Furthermore, can't I share it my sister's kid as well. We live in the same household, though we have individual desktop & notebook.

OK, let me say it again as clearly as I can:

1. You CAN use it on multiple computers - up to 2.

2. One of those computers can be yours, one can be your sister's. Doesn't matter.

3. The data on one computer will not be the same as that on the other computer (that's what I meant by not being in sync).  Meaning, if you download something using one computer, or create something using that computer, it's not going to magically sync up with the other computer.  This is a software capability issue, not a licensing issue.  If you want to share the data, you should export it from one computer and import it back to the other.  Transferring data/files between one computer to the other (and therefore sync'ing) will be easier when we have version 2.

Can I execute via peer to peer connection from a single installation?  This should resolve the sync problem. Yes/no?

Can I Run it from a server library from both my computers?  This would be another way to resolve the sync problem.  Yes/no?

Hi Laurence,

Re peer-to-peer, do you mean using remote programs like PC Everywhere, TeamViewer, etc.? It sounds possible depending on connection speed and whether the client PC will also play back the audio of the host PC.  From what I know, most remote programs do not do that.

Re running from a server library, that's not possible right now as the Library files location cannot be changed from the default location.

Again, we are anticipating greater ease of portability and perhaps syncing using third-party sync software with version 2.

Re peer to peer.   I was not thinking about pc anywhere etc.  I have used cabled peer to peer in the past to share files between cpus.
This saved a lot of work.
Will this work for LR and LM?   The lib would all reside on the host peer partner.

Hi Laurence,

To make the program more streamlined and simpler for parents, Little Reader currently does not allow users the ability to determine where their Media Library resides (the location is stored as a direct path to My Documents). 

Also, because we will also be restructuring the way Little Reader content is delivered and stored in version 2, there are no plans to extend that functionality under the current framework.  Technically speaking, if we allowed users to choose where the Media Library was drawn from, it would be functional.

I understand your remarks per LR.   Will PtP cabled work on V2 of LR?  You did not mention LM.  Will PtpP cabled work for LM?

If one computer can navigate to another computer via network to find files on that computer, then yes, it will work for LR v2.

However, LM is a different story and it will not be so simple. We'll be looking into it in due course.
