Hi, I'm a newbie to the site. I'd love to try the little reader and little math, but we are a Mac household. Will it run with parallels?

Thanks

Hi Madre, welcome to the BrillKids Forum! smile

Yes, once you have Windows running via Parallels (or Bootcamp for others), you will be able to install and use any Windows-compatible program in your Mac, and this includes Little Reader and Little Math.

When you're ready to try Little Reader and Little Math, simply follow the instructions in these articles so you can download and install your free trial software:

How to get a free trial for Little Reader
http://support.brillkids.com/index.php/article/little-reader-free-trial

How to get a free trial for Little Math

I hope this helps!

Thanks so much! It helps a bunch. I'll try to set it up later today when I get a chance. I have been using My Baby Can Read and My Child Can Read DVD's with my 3 year old but the flexibility with Little reader looks great and I like the idea of expanding into Spanish.

I just told my older daughter about the site today so she should be joining soon and checking out the programs. Her husband speaks Portuguese and Swahili. This will be great to teach my grandson too.

Well I am a windows 7- 64 bit users but this will run on that platform just not at 64 bits.

More importantly I would like an android to go version without all the bells and whistles just display.

I am newbie to litte reader, just have it installed on my Mac/VMware fusion 3.3, looks running ok so far, but felt that the sound quality should be better...not sure any tuning or the FF is required ?

Hi Barany,

Have you tried using the Audio Diagnostic Tool (in Little Reader's Support Tools window)? If you haven't tried that yet, please refer to this page for instructions: http://support.brillkids.com/entries/20433747-how-to-use-the-audio-diagnostic-tool

You may also want to try turning Auto Forward off and that might help, especially if you are hearing cut off sounds (either at the start or end of every word/sentence). Kindly try to describe what type of sound quality issue you are having so we know what else to suggest for you (different volume levels, cut off sounds, sounds don't play at all, etc.)

If the Audio Diagnostic Tool doesn't help, do send us a Diagnostic Report so we can troubleshoot further:
http://support.brillkids.com/entries/20438423-how-to-create-a-diagnostic-report-for-your-brillkids-learning-system

Will look forward to your reply smile

I know I am late to the game, but I am excited that there is a possible Mac version. I am looking to use my mom's PC laptop so we can start asap with LR and LM with our daughter, but being a Mac family here (and not interested in running Parallels or Bootcamp), I would love to be able to use our computer. Also, an iPad app sounds right up our alley (don't ask, but our 11 month old can spot an iPad from across the room and makes a beeline for it!).

We would love to use this program, but we only have Macs in our family.

How is the situation with Mac compatible versions of your programs? Do you plane their release in the near future? We have bought new Mac and I was looking forward to finally run LMs without sound delays probs. I have just found out there is actually none version of any of your software compatible with Mac! Such a disappointment! I cannot use neither of my LR, LMs or LM!

We are a mac family as well.  I'm wondering whether if I buy little reader for PC I can run the whole curriculum through the Little Reader App on my ipad without having to use a PC at all, thus avoiding the incompatibility issues....i.e. if I have a license key for Little Reader but have not installed in on a laptop, can I just register with the license key and download the whole curriculum?

We also need Mac or iPad versions. No wonder the download didn't work! I don't have anything that I can run parallels on either...

It's unfortunate, but true - our programs are only compatible with Windows-based computers (which is why our product pages and trial pages do say that the programs are Windows-compatible.)

smile To explain, so everyone understands why this is the case, our programmers began programming our software using .NET Framework as the base, a Microsoft-developed platform for software. We have developed building on what we began years ago, and this is how Little Reader, Little Math and Little Musician came to be what they are today.

Unfortunately, this is a major limitation for our programs - not everyone uses Windows.

A workaround to this is to use Bootcamp, which is a free multi-boot utility included with Apple's OS X that assists users in installing Microsoft Windows operating systems on Intel-based Macintosh computers. Parallels does the same thing, but you have to pay for it, so we usually recommend using Bootcamp since it already comes free with OSX.

Kindly have a look at these links for more information about Boot Camp and Parallels:

Boot Camp
http://www.apple.com/osx/what-is/compatibility.html

Parallels
http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/

So essentially, if you install Windows on your Mac using Bootcamp, you can literally use our programs. smile We have a few members here who have been using our programs on their Macs for a few years now, and I am sure they will be able to help you with how they did it if you need more information.

If you would like to know a little bit more about how you can setup Little Reader to run on your Mac via BootCamp, you may refer to this article: http://support.brillkids.com/entries/20426792-how-to-get-windows-running-on-your-mac-bootcamp

On the other hand, we do have an iOS app (Little Reader Touch) which you can download and install on your iPad or iPhone. The app itself is FREE, and you may just download it from the App store.

To get the full curriculum on your iOS device will require that you already have a LICENSED Curriculum for the LITTLE READER PC software in order to access it. To get the full curriculum on your app, you will need at least a Little Reader Basic license and iAccess.

Here are the links to the two products:

 - Little Reader Basic: https://user.brillkids.com/onlinestore/ls-little-reader-basic.php
 - iAccess: https://user.brillkids.com/onlinestore/lrt-iaccess.php

I hope this information somewhat helps! happy

I have a mac and we really need a software for LR to work on mac! I believe it's very inconvenient that it only works on windows.

Please have this issue resolved as i don't like using windows and im a mac user.

Many thanks!

Hand raised!

We are an all Mac family. We installed bootcamp for the sole purpose of using BrillKids programs but, to be honest, having to wait (forever) for the computer to restart into Windows means that I often forget or just don't do it. We would use the programs so much more if there was a Mac version.
