LR Arabic Curriculum Working Group

Dear Everyone,

At the suggestion of KL, I am opening a thread in reference to the LR-Arabic Curriculum Working Group. 

Please find attached a common Egyptian Arabic Reader, Level 1, used to teach children the alphabet, the sounds, the short/long vowels, and other syllable combinations, along with little poems/stories as reading exercises - which illustrates the traditional approach I have described previously.

I also remembered that I had posted sometime ago on the forums, a Children's Arabic Reader from Lebanon, circa 1938, that also has the majority of vowel markings, that would be used after the 1st level of the Egyptian [beginning] reader teaching the alphabet, and syllables, etc.:

I found a very nice Arabic Reader for children online:

"The New Way"

"A direct sound-method for learning to read the Arabic language for beginners."
An Arabic language reader for elementary school second grade. Printed in Sidon in 1938.

This book was donated by Christian Awaraji in Beirut, the summer of 1997. It belonged to his aunt who used it as a school textbook in 1944.

Sorry for the late reply - wrapped up in projects.  It is a very large file and make take sometime to download.  Did you try again recently?

Also, there is another Egyptian reader below, that is the same type of format of teaching the Arabic letters, combined letters, vowels, etc. (this one is closer to Noorani that I use for Classical/Qur'anic Arabic, and the other pdfs mentioned before, are fushah/modern standard Arabic):

ASA.  I have tried to open the file again - but still no luck.  I am assuming this thread is suggesting we use the classical approach for any Brill Kids Arabic curriculum?

Hi Ayesha, apologies for the late update!

We are at the early stages in developing the Arabic curriculum (i.e., localizing words /categories) - we are working with our UAE distributor's team for this.

Unfortunately at this point we are unable to provide an exact release date. Do rest assured that we are currently working on the Arabic curriculum

Hi mrseddy, we're getting the voice recordings done at the moment. Although we don't have an exact release date in mind just yet, we estimate that the Arabic curriculum will be ready in about two months.

Hi everyone!

We're in the middle of developing the Arabic Curriculum for Little Reader, and we'd like to get a beta testing team together to help us check the curriculum, recordings, and to eventually do a final check and test run of the curriculum!

For this, we are looking for a limited number of  testers to are interested in joining us iron out bugs in the beta version of the LR Arabic curriculum. 

Qualified beta testers will do the following:

1. Download and install the beta version of the LR Arabic curriculum.
[Important: The latest LR version (v3.3.1500) is required for this beta program]
Have a look at the words, categories or course lessons and look for errors or problems (e.g., typo errors, missing recordings, wrong pronunciation of recordings, pictures or videos, etc.)

2. Report the bugs you find to the BrillKids Team
Just write to us at support[at]brillkids.com with the Subject "ARABIC CURRICULUM BETA" and give us your feedback, comments and/or suggestions.

Active beta members will get a special gift from us at the end of the beta testing period.  

Our Beta Testing Program is open to 5-10 native Arabic speakers who are also long-time users of our Little Reader program.
Note that our curriculum was developed for teaching Arabic (i.e., Arabic as it is spoken in Saudi Arabia).

If you are interested, please write to us at support[at]brillkids.com with the Subject "ARABIC CURRICULUM BETA". Give us a brief background of your experience with LR, and tell us how fluent you are in Arabic (and what regional dialect or accent you might have, if any). We will reply to everyone who wants to be on the team via PM.
