as salaam 'alaikum,
I will be uploading LR .cat files with the individual words, and English translation in context for each surah, in Uthmani script. I just uploaded al-Isti'aadhah, al-Basmala, and am currently creating a category for Surah 001 al-Fatihah, and will upload it today, insha'Allah.
These are intended to be used after finishing at least Lesson 10 (Sukoon) of al-Qai'dah al-Nooraneeyah, or another similar program. The purpose of using these individual flashcards is to build up instant word recognition and proper pronunciation with tajweed; along with learning the basic English translation (for them to know that there is a meaning to the word in our native language of English, although it is a secondary issue at this point, and that they are not just memorizing "sounds and timing patterns").
These .cat files are text only, and it is expected that the parent be familiar with the teaching methods of al-Qai'dah al-Nooraneeyah to help the child spell-read/pronounce the words, with tajweed rules as they occur within a word, and between words.
Tajweed Rules resources >
http://www.tajweedinenglish.com/ http://www.readwithtajweed.com/ http://www.abouttajweed.com/tajweed-rules-for-hafs-an-aasim/index.phpThere is also a new product with 92 flash card words of oft-repeated words in the Qur'an that help develop "instant recognition":
http://www.learningroots.com/lr/lvq003.phpHowever, as I am teaching my children Juz 'Amma, I need them to know the individual words in the surah first (Doman Method, Step 1: Individual Words), then know how to connect them (Doman Method, Step 2: Couplets and Step 3: Phrases), and recite the ayah (Doman Method, Step 4: Sentences with 4 - 6 words); and recite the Surah (Doman Method, Step 5: Books).
The way that I use these flashcards, is in the following manner:
1. Using the Noorani technique of "spell-reading/pronunciation", I spell read the individual words with the last tashkeel, and say the English translation.
2. For the last word in an ayah, I will spell-read it with the last tashkeel, and pronounce it with the last tashkeel, and with sukoon.
3. I will then switch over to using the following online software program with a word-for-word pronunciation by Sheikh Hesham el-Gamal (ijaazah for tafeedh and tajweed from Egypt, masha'Allah) >
http://www.houseofquran.com/qsys/quranteacher1.html . I make the Arabic font as large as possible, and it is easy for them to read on the screen, especially because there are spaces between the words. For the couplets and phrases that he pronounces together in an ayah, I will spell read the words together, point out any tajweed rules and explain it in simple terms (hamzat-ul-wasl is written, but silent in pronunciation, so we connect the words together); and I explain to my children that the two or three words are written and pronounced individually as we read in the flashcards, but to pronounce/say/recite them together, we have to say it like "this", and I click the phrase for my children to hear, and they repeat after him.
4. Will play the ayah as pronounced by Sheikh Hesham el-Gamal.
5. Will play the ayah/surah with Sheikh Hussary, ra, recitation at least 10 x.
6. Use the LR category file to review the individual words, in a random order, because the children tend to memorize the sounds of the words in order, and may not recognize the written form correctly.
7. I also have each flash card printed out, in a page protector, within a binder, in the correct order. I purposefully left off the slide/page numbers because, I will take out one ayah at a time, mix up the words, and have the girls "find" the first word of the ayah, the second word of an ayah, etc. and put them back in the correct order. And then we recite the ayah. If the page numbers are printed - they will use those instead of using the words. So, if they get all mixed up, we just put them back in order (and use a mushaaf as a guideline, if necessary).
8. The girls (age 3 years 9 months 5 days) each have their own little Juz 'Amma mushaaf, and are now able to accurately follow along with their pointer finger, when listening to recitation of the surah, or when reciting themselves, masha'Allah; even though the spaces between the words are almost non-existent. Without teaching the individual words of an ayah/surah first, they will not know where the word begins and ends!, and each "line" in the mushaaf will look like one huge word!
9. I will upload more LR .cat files, as I reformat the flashcards. Thus far, I have:
001 Surah al-Fatihah
002 al-Baqara, ayat 001 - 005
002 al-Baqara, ayah 255 (Ayat ul Kursi)
002 al-Baqara, ayah 282 (longest ayah in the Qu'ran, one page of Madinah mushaaf)
098 al-Bayyinah to
114 al-Naas
My intention is to complete Juz 'Amma, and Juz Tabarak, insha'Allah.
Du'as, please.
