http://www.essortment.com/all/artificialsweet_tvgp.htmI too was warned about artificial sweeteners (diet pop etc.) you will find that the one ingredient is found in antifreeze, gasoline, varnish, and lacquers, and formaldehyde. I was told that if the pop was overheated during storage that the formaldehyde characteristics would be triggered. Whether that is totally accurate or not I am not sure, but just the mention of it was enough to keep me away from artificial sweeteners.
