Books about homeschooling?

" So, what books would you give to a young bride to introduce her to the concept of homeschooling (at the request of the young, homeschooled groom) who hopes his children will be schooled at home as well. What books influenced you?"

Hi Skylark,
I am reading a facinating book, Hold onto Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers by Dr Gordon Neufeld.  I think it is relevant to homeschoolers because it addresses socialization concerns often brought up as an argument against homeschooling.  I have also seen it recommended, on several occasions, by homeshcoolers.  So far, I'm 3/4 of the way through reading it, it seems to be written mostly for the parent that has a teen that is getting out of contorl, but at the same time for anyone, parents or teachers, that is in contact with children.  Anyway, I think this preview can better explain the book than I can.

Yep...Gordon Neufeld is THE BIG THING around here (Manitoba).  There have been several conferences in our part of Canada and our specific school board has brought him in many times to work with the teachers.  In fact, we're building a new middle school and apparently Neufeld is part of the brains behind it. 

I haven't read his book yet, but the chatter about it is what got me thinking about homeschooling to start with.  He was the keynote at a h.s. conference in B.C. a few years ago that my friend attended.  But, as Twinergy commented, the book apparently focuses more on older children - however, I think that if you're homeschooling and being the "ALPHA" (one of his terms referring to family leadership) you won't have as many of the teen difficulties he addresses.  Anyway - those are thoughts from a person who hasn't read the book...I'm sure I'd have deeper insights if I'd just get off my butt and get the book!

Thank you all, she is mainly interested in the book about benefits of Homeschooling and gently introducing someone to the idea. The girl is not opposed to it just never heard much about it...

You gave a wonderful list, I will be looking into some of th books for myself,
