They don't smell too much (not like fish oil!) You can get them in liquid capsules or liquid. They do have omegas, but according to the article that Kmum posted, children's bodies are not able to convert them.

I am surprised to find that dairy products are not good for health.
Sad As here in out society the dairy products are considered to be most nutritious. Rather it is encouraged that more and more dairy products should be given.

However, after going through the present discussion, i will try to not give dairy products to the my child.

Thanks to all and enhancing the knowledge

Thanks to Brillkids also for introducing such forum......

I started cutting dairy out of my diet over 2 years ago and I do not plan on giving it to my son at all. I have known of the ill effects of dairy for a while, but it wasn't until I gave it up completely that I noticed a big difference in my health. Anywho, I switched to rice milk, but the only brand I prefer is full circle.

I was wondering about raw milk... I did some research but there is one aspect that I am not sure of...By consuming raw milk you mean you don't even boil it at home? Even if you take it directly from the farm, isn't that risky? Are there ways to reduce the risk of diseases without compromising the nutritional value of the milk? Is there a certain way to boil it that is OK?

I would also like to know about the boiling.   smile

I was also wondering if any of you who started eliminating dairy have seen a difference.  It has been about a month since this thread started and I was just curious.

For those who do eliminate dairy, what is your favorite ways to get the calcium, fat and vitamin D into your babies?

Y'all are always so helpful.  I sure appreciate y'all! big grin

This is a very important topic for me right now. Since Jacob turned one I made the switch to whole milk. But ever since he has had the worst constipation. I read that could be a sign of milk intolerance. So, I went out and got some soy milk. He has been on that for two days and already the constipation is improving.

I don't know what to do though, I have read some nasty things about soy. But I have also read a lot of good experiences with it. I would like to cut out dairy (although I love cheese and ice cream) What is the best alternative? Jacob still loves to have a bottle, so I need something "milky" for him. Plus he still drinks about four of these a day. He goes for his 12 month well check on Fri so I will ask them about this also.

I know there are a lot of good food sources but he has become so picky in what he will eat that I worry about difficiencies.

Has anyone tried "green smoothies"? Basically a smoothie made with a lot of fruit and green leafy veggies. Everything I have read says it tastes great, but I haven't tried it yet. This would be a wonderful way to get calcium from food. I just don't know if my blender is strong enough to really smooth out the greens. tongue  I would love to get a vitamixer but they are so expensive!

ABOUT THE SOY MILK ,even me read about nasty things that could happen expecially for boys.  jake has been found that he has lactose intolerance in our local milk .He used to make dearrea every day .Now i am giving him  long life milk and he is constipated. He does not eat vegatables .At least he likes oranges and gives him 2 a day .Sometimes he is controlled.Instead of soy milk i was suggested for rice milk.

Dear All,

This is all interesting information - I myself have never really liked drinking milk, and developed an allergy to dairy as an adult.  My children's stomach's are upset when they consume it, and we all have upper respiratory issues (sneezing, running noses/eyes, inflammed sinuses, congestion that turns into full-blown infections with fevers!)  I substitute 16 oz. of soy milk for them per day.

I and my children personally follow The Zone nutritional program by Dr. Barry Sears, coupled with Omega Rx (highly refined and ultra-pure and a pleasing taste).  We are all healthy, calm, have excellent attention spans, thanks to God, and rarely get sick.

Please refer to the following links for more detailed information to understand how the delicate balance of nutrition and Omega 3's together affect hormones and wellness or "dis-ease":

I believe that one of the most precious things after having great health, is great education!

I am currently eliminating all dairy from my son's diet. And I mean all dairy. I am being very careful not to give him any prepared food that have any type of dairy product in it. I made pasta last night and had to search through my sauces to find one that did not have any cheese products in it.

I am mainly doing this because I think his system is intolerant of dairy and it is affecting him. He developed a rash on his face and his poor bowels just can't normalize. He also started getting some exzema on his legs, but that could just be due to the dry weather?

The doc said it takes a full month to get all dairy out of his system so I'll let you all know how he does dairy free at that time. It's only been a couple of days since we went completly dairy free.

I tried the raw milk and was really hoping that would work for him because of all the benifits that I read about, but I don't think it will work for him at least.

Right now he is drinking a mix of rice and/or almond milk.

Right now I don't inforce "dairy free" on my other kiddos but it is limited because I am not cooking with it. I am hoping the limited dairy will benifit them also.

We haven't done the blood tests yet. 12 tubes blink ouch! If eliminating dairy for a month doesn't do us any good then I will press for some sort of testing. Although I've read that testing at my son's age isn't very reliable??

In my opion it is better to have his blood test now so that you know.Mine has 5years he has speech delay he never told me that he was in pain because of the milk.He was even diagnosed that had low iron.It sounds cruil 12 Test tubes but in 10 mins he was ready. He was more afraid then it was pain to take it. Many results comes out from it even if he is alergic to something .Try to test the poo for the milk .there are testing on it too.

I just saw this topic and would like to share my experience on the subject.

When I received the same article, I asked my daughter's pediatrician about it. To my surprise, he said his two daughters (age 4 anmd 6) have not drank any milk since they were 10 months old. He said, humans do not need milk and gave the example of animals, as no animal babies drink milk as adults. He did suggest that I give her a multi vitamin tablet every day when stop the milk.

The problem was for me that my daughter loved her milk, so I started looking for alternatives. After reading confusing things about soy, I decided not to switch to soy milk completely. In the end I found an Oat drink, that my daughter loves drinking. I found it in wholefoods market. It is organic, enriched with Vitamin A & D, excellent source of calcium. Below is a link of this product.

http://www.pacificfoods.com/our-foods/nut-grain-beverages/organic-oat-original-non-dairy-beverage

Unfortunately, the store seems to run out of it very often, so I stock up whenever they have and if I run out of it then I give her soy milk.

She is still eating one yogurt and one cheese stick a day. She is asthmatic and used to be sick all the time. After, I stopped milk, started multi vitamins and giving her flu shot, she has not been sick for the past 2-3 months, which is so hard to believe,..

I also tried to give her Dr. Sears's fish oil, but she hated that and any other fish oil I tried. Then I found flaxseed oil for toddlers. It is called Toddler DHA, the brand is Spectrum essentials and it is organic. In the supplement facts it says: ALA 300 mg, DHA 125mg and EPA 9mg. I wonder if this is good based on the comments above.
