There has been tremendous debate in regards vaccines specially for very young babies, can experienced moms give us your opinion, any articles, websites you can personally recommend - the web is saturated with information - it makes it hard to find un bias - non pharmaceutical sponsored information about this extremely important subject.

Every response will get Karma I promise !!!

Thanks a lot for your input.

Hopefully you will get more replies to your post, but for me, I also had concerns regarding vaccines. Whether or not to give them and which ones I thought were necessary and which ones were not. I am lucky to have the wonderful doctor that I do have, but I went to my son's doctor visit with a schedule of my own and I discussed my plans with the doctor and he was very open and okay with everything that I wanted. I was not aware of alternate schedules at that time, but I did come to find out from my nurse that there were other options.

The link below was my attempt to find out about the alternate schedule that some parents use, but for some reason I can't remember the name so I will find out and get back to you.

http://www.generationrescue.org/vaccines.html (this link is created by concerned parents who offer alternatives to current recommendations)

Good Luck!!

I have no personal experience.
My opinion (after reading several papers) is:

For several serious diseases, there is a certain age when they start to manifest. For example, autism starts at 18 months.
Babies usually have several vaccines before this age. If one thing happens after another, people bind these two things together and say that one is causing another. but also unvaccinated children suffer of autism. There are several large studies showing that the same % of vaccinated and unvaccinated children suffer of autism.

I can give you several links but they all come from here
http://www.newscientist.com/search?query=vaccine+autism&fromdate=&todate=&rbauthors=&rbissueno=&resultview=keyword

Another aspect is that child has to be totally healthy at the time of vaccinating. If your child has cough and doctor says that you can vaccinate, don't do it. Some month ago, one child died of diphteria vaccine. Child was sick at the time of vaccination and died, probably of diphteria.

Gloria, there is no need to announce that you are giving away karma in your posts. I am going to edit your title. People need to freely help to earn karma, not only help to receive it. It is very generous of you, and you can still give karma to any and every one you wish.

I'm sure you've seen these threads. I think many parent have already shared their personal opinions/experiences on them.http://forum.brillkids.com/coffee-corner/autism-and-vaccines/

Here is a great book:  "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations" by Stephanie Cave.  I did a lot of research and even talked to a holistic pediatrician and decided not to vax.  This book was great and gave info on delayed schedules also.

Thanks a lot Cassidy - will check the book.  I share the feeling my pediatrician is a holistic doctor as well - we did vaccinate my daughter when she was a baby but after 2 years old we stopped vaccines and so far so good - no problems. Quite the opposite very healthy child.

Thanks for the resource - K2U

In Australia there is currently an epidemic, getting worse, of babies dying of whooping cough or being seriously affected by it, because adults are contracting it and passing it on to youngsters not yet immunised. I'm having a baby, so cant get the immunisation, but will as soon as the baby is born.  All carers, like hospital workers, daycare providers etc have to have the whooping cough immunisation now, as it's deadly. Unfortunately most adults arent immunised against it, and are putting babies at risk.  If those babies dont get immunised they are putting other babies at risk. That is NOT fair.

I have had Sophia fully vaccinated and to date there are no problems.

I totally understand how you feel about vaccinations as i felt that way to, but I spoke to a lady who organises the immunisation schedule with the government and she explained what each disease did to a young baby. (Which wasn't very nice)

Some facts about the diseases,

If your child contrats tetnus it can can not be treated with a single course of antibiotics it is antibiotics for the REST of your life. Tetnus is not just contracted by rusty nails. Tetnus is a bacteria that lives in the soil.
Hep B is not just sexually contracted it can be contrated from needles and can be as easily contracted as walking through bare foot where somebody from the night before with Hep B vomitted even though it has been cleaned off the pavement. There are also to different types of Hep B one is viral and the other is not.
Whooping Cough is still around as Nikita has said and it is true that the older generation are passing it on to unimmunised babies.
This is just some of the facts that I have learnt by looking into it more deeply than reading the trollop on line.

Also each countries immunisation schedule is different. What America immunises against and when is very differnt to Australia and the UK. So maybe wherever you live that is something that you take into consideration as well.

Different countries pharmaceutical standards are different as well. Mayb that is a cause of concern as well?

Read both sides of the story but whatever you do make the most informed choice that you can?

Also ask yourself if your little baby does contract one of the diseases that could be immunised against, How are you going to feel?
Are you planning future overseas travel, what if those countries that you want to go to want you to show proof of immunisation?
If someone in your family unfortunately gets cancer and are on chemo or radiotherapy are you aware that your child is a huge health risk to the person with cancer, because although they may not have the disease they can pass it on to the cancer pat who does not have the immune system to fight it?
The risk of Autism is relatively low and there is not enough research to prove that immunisation causes Autism.

I understand that this is a big decision and yes I am pro immunisation now, once I got all the facts. I hope this helps even though I am biased towards immunisation.

I was too scared about these diseases which sound awful.  I was also schocked to learn that most recent cases of Polio came from the vax.  And, many times it is the children who are vaccinated that come down with the diseases.  Also, there are holistic cures for most things.  Tetanus was the most scary for me and that can be taken care of with alternative medicine. If you catch it quickly it isn't hard to treat.  So, I decided that all the chemicals in the shots were worse than the slight chance of actually contracting any of these diseases.  I was very sick as a child, and after 30 years a holistic problem made me well in 4 days so I'm not one for traditional medicine.  But, I think every parent should do their research and make the decision that is right for their family.

It would be scary if there was an epidemic like the one in Austrailia, but luckily I haven't found anything like that in my area.

My little boy (2yo) hasn't had one injection.

I met a woman whose daughter got autism after her daughter was given the meningoccocal injections.  Her two kids had contacted whooping cough. She said to me, "I could help cure my children from whooping cough, but I can't cure my daughter from autism".

A guy I work with, his daughter has CP.  I asked him how she got it.  When she had the Hep B injectioned at 2 days, she stopped breathing.  The nurses didn't catch it, the doctor took his time.  It was too late.  (Hep B - the most controversial injection - you can only get Hep B from blood or sex - where would a child get this from!)

Most chiropractors do not immunise their children.  Many peadtricians don't immunise either - you just have to ask.  I have 2 other friends who haven't touched injections.

But yes, there are concerns!  There is a profressor/researcher at Swinbourne University here in Australia who has done 20 years research into using homeopathy.  His name is Isaac Golden.  He has written many books on his research and his programme that he has worked on.  We have our little boy on this programme.  His success has been astounding.

All the best with your choice.  It's a hard one, but once you've made your mind up - a relief.

Hi..
As you cited, the web is saturated with pros and cons of vaccinations.  So it has become a matter of personal choice to have your child vaccinated.  As for me, I had my son fully vaccinated, till now no problems.  Back here in India, we can't imagine the life without those jabs.  Till now, I haven't come across any child having any side effects from vaccines.  From my personal experiences, I have a cousin down with polio, since her parents couldn't give her oral polio drops.  She is 27 now and its hard to see how she manages.  Here pediatricians are recommending all the parents who can afford to go for optional vaccines like varicella, pneumovax, apart from the schedule of vaccines.  I have the feeling that my child is so precious that I want to prevent him from contracting these dreadful diseases. My sister in law, who is a homeopath has told me about alternative vaccines available, homeopathic nosodes.  But I am still to gather information about that.  I think choosing what is good for your child depending on your living conditions would be a better option.

Take Care

My daughter is 18 mos. and has barely been ill. No ear infection, 2 colds. Thats it. we chose not to vaccinate, despite our doctors urging. every time we go to a check up he is dismayed by our steadfastness and her heartiness.
We were bullied into the Hep B at the hospital when she was only minutes old. after we did the research and found out how hep B is contracted, we were furious. I don't think I need to worry about a newborn contracting sexually transmitted diseases. They made it sound like she could easily pick it up anywhere.
After we did the research we decided against vaccinatons. Looking  back,I know we made the right decision. At the time it was very difficult. many a sleepless night was spent worrying. I think my daughters clean bill of health is due to NOT vaccinating.
Do the research, go with your gut, and be strong.
