Camping with baby

Hey there     , this is my first time posting on here so bare with me

I have a 4 month old daughter that will be  9 months in August my friend asked our family to join hers for their annual camping trip. It will be my husband and our daughter, my friend,  her husband and their 19 month old daughter... and a dog .  It's sort of Back country camping for 1 week.  We do plan to do a weekend camping trip closer to home before hand, sort of a tester. 

With that said I was curious if anyone had any pointers or tips to camping with babies and toddlers

I'm guessing you are hiking a bit because you said back country.  Make sure you find a good baby back pack with a frame.  It is worth spending a little more on.  I would be concerned about mosquitos too & find a good natural bug repellent.  There are so many little extra things to do, but those are the first two that come to mind.  If you have any more specific questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Just as an aside...a good baby backpack will be a very good buy.  We used ours long after our son couldn't fit into a bjorn front carrier.  It's excellent to use when you just need to get some things done and your child is having a crabby day.  When my son NEEDED to be with me it was a lifesaver!

Not sure where you are going camping but I have always found shade and easy snacks to be essential to camping with little ones. Making meals can be a big production while camping but if you have lots of nutritious easy to carry snacks it can be the difference between a screaming child and a happy little camper!

I would love to hear some more about people's experiences camping with little ones as we were thinking that camping would be a fun, affordable adventure that we could share with our little one! I may be crazy...........!

At first it was hard since you can't help do the chores since my priority is my son. So all the time I was just sitting on the chair, taking care of my son while watching them do the camping activities.

We had a Snugli chest carrier for hiking with our little one then moved up to a backpack carrier by Sherpani, now at 5 years old he does hiking by himself and loves camping. We took him on a camping tour of Vancouver Island at about 2 months. Tofino, Miracle beach were both nice spots. We found it was well worth the money to buy a good stroller. I would say the key would be good fairly substantial diameter wheels. Small wheels will not go over trails very well at all. I agree lots of toys aren't necessary. Don't try to do to much,try to pick spots without to much car time between them. Try to pick the best weather report too you don't want to be playing Survivor with a little one along. A bit of patience and you all will be enjoying beautiful B.C.
