I would like to download my own premium files because I created them and uploaded to BK library long time ago and I do not have them stored in my computer anymore. It seems like I have to pay with my points for my own premium files to download them. Is that correct?

I would like to preview them to see why they were upgraded as premium - they are very similar to other my categories that are not premium. I wonder why :-). I would like to re-do my old files to help them to become premium. I understand that following the rules stated here - http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader/brillkids-criteria-for-approving-little-reader-files-as-premium-content/ would help. Are the chances the same for foreign languages files?  What are the correct steps that I should take? Should I download my old files, re-do them, export them from my LR and ???? What shoud I do next to retain downloads of my old files??? Thank you for your directions. :-)

ํYou don`t have to use points to pay for your old files. Just go to your account management page and go to `My Files``.
You can download your own files without paying for them there.

There are several reasons for the file to be categorized as premium. These are my guess:

- the popularity of your file, and the completion of the contents (eg pronuncitation, picture, and audios included in the lessons).
- The files you created are of the language that Brillkids is planning to create as their official curriculum content for Little Reader.

Thank you for your advice but if I go to My files in my account management page, they are not there and it states I am supposed to go to find them searching in the forum. And there if I want to download them the system lets me know that I would "pay" for them.   ohmy

As I mentioned above, I found one post by Lappy stating the rules for files to get chance to be approved as premium files.  Here they are:

The BrillKids administrators will be judging the files according to the overall quality of the lesson and content, but here are some specific points which we will consider during the approval process:

     •   Lesson Content (Mandatory)
o   Number of Slides - minimum number of slides are set to 5. We discourage breaking up lessons in small separate files just to increase chances of getting more points. All lessons must be standalone and complete in themselves.

     •   Pronunciation Files (Mandatory, especially for foreign language Little Reader files!)
o   Clarity of Recording - your recordings have to be loud and clear, with no disturbing noises in the background.
o   Accuracy of Pronunciation - make sure that you are pronouncing the word(s) accurately, to ensure that you are able to teach your child the correct pronunciation.

     •   Images  (Mandatory!)
o   Number of Images per Word - the more the better (recommended: at least 3)!
o   Image quality - the pictures should be clear and concise; it should convey the meaning of the word or concept well.
o   Image size - to avoid the hassle of massive file sizes, we recommend that you resize your photos to at least 640x480 with a maximum of 1024x768pixels. To learn more about how to resize your images, please see this FAQ.

     •   Picture Audio (Highly Recommended!)
o   Clarity of Recording - your recordings have to be loud and clear, with no disturbing noises in the background.
o   Accuracy of Pronunciation - make sure that you are pronouncing the word(s) accurately, and use this function to encourage your child to interact with the lesson.
o   Relevance to the Word File

     •   Videos (Recommended!)
o   Length of Video Clips - 2-5 second video clips to help demonstrate the word or concept
o   File Format - Preferably in flash (SWF) format for smaller file size. BrillKids has no video converter software to specifically recommend, but there are many good ones available for free over the internet.

     •   Creativity of the Lesson Concept

Apart from the pronunciation files and the images, the rest of the criteria are fairly flexible.  As always, we will judge the quality of the Little Reader file based on the overall feel of the lesson, and how well the media content reinforces the learning process.

I attached printscreen of some filtered files that I have created and uploaded long time ago... Cost of some of them is 0, cost of some of them is 0 but there is a note (paid) and cost of some of them is 100.  What are the files for 0 (paid)??? What does it mean? And those for 100 - it seems like I shoud "pay" for them...

Is it possible that you've downloaded the ones marked as 0 (paid) at any time?

I'm taking a wild guess, but maybe it's because your username and your upload's author names don't match.

I don't really know how this premium stuff works either, the rules were thought up before my time and I don't think it's as strict anymore, but I've noticed that often when you have a series of categories, like you did a bunch of nursery rhymes, then only one or two in the series get's marked as premium.  When you think about it, somebody downloading them will probably download the entire set and then it seems a bit unfair to pay for each one?? Maybe, but I've wondered about it too.

Lovely collection you've made, thank you very much for sharing all your hard work!

Hi all,

When a file gets downloaded 100 times, it will go to a premium file approval queue. Once a month, forum admins go through the approval queue and check each file one by one, and then determine if the file deserves a premium status or not.

If the file doesn't get approved to premium status, it will still be available for download at the Library - we also try to write a short note for the file author with tips on how to improve his/her file. The unapproved file is still eligible for premium approval later on, so if we see your updated file in the approval queue again and notice that it was significantly improved, we will definitely give your file the premium status by then.

For files that are part of a series (e.g., a group of 5 "Tropical Fruits" files), the download count is still done separately for each file. Sometimes a file from a series does get downloaded more times than the other files from the same series, and that's why there are a few cases where only one or two files from the same series have the premium status.

The guidelines Bystre deti reposted still apply, although we tend to be more lenient when it comes to foreign language files (especially if there aren't that many files for that particular language).

Bystre deti, about your screenshot - those that say "0 (paid)" under Cost means those particular files are premium files that you've already downloaded before (whether you downloaded the file before or after it became a premium file). If Cost is "100" or "200" that means it's a premium file that you haven't downloaded before - the number also corresponds to the number of points you need to "pay" for that download.

Note that when downloading any premium file, you only pay the points for the first time you download it. When you redownload the same file later on, you won't pay again.

At the moment, even if you are the author of the premium file, our system will still charge you for points (if you've never downloaded that file before). We'll surely add this to our to-fix list!

Bystre deti, please PM me with a list of the old files you wanted to download and I'll see how I can get them for you. yes

Hi Kezia, thank you for your  explanation.
I would like to understand the system that is why I have one more question. :-) Attached please see another  print-screen from BK library - it shows some files for 0 (paid) which you explained in your post. But it shows also a file that states 100 (paid). If it is paid (downloaded by me), why does it still show 100?
Thank you.
Martina

Hi Martina!

When a file costs "100 (paid)" or "200 (paid)," that means the file became a premium file after you downloaded it. If you re-download the file (when it's already in premium status), you don't need to pay for it too.

Kezia, thank you for the explanation. It make sense that way :-).
I created some (mostly Czech) categories for my daughters which I am going to share with others. I created many story-type categories for Little Reader - they have one picture coming with each text slide (with sentence of the story and it has pronunciation, of course). But some of them has MANY slides (one of them has more then 50 slides, many of them has about 20-30 slides).
I would like to upload categories that have chance to become premium (to get points for my work) :-).
Is one picture coming with each sentence of the story enough?
Can I upload very long stories in parts or should I upload the story as one category even if it has 20, 30 or more slides?
Thank you for your advice....
