Sleep training for babies

Dear all
Iam new to this forum .I would like to seek advice on how to sleep train a 8 months old baby .
She gets up 5-6 times during the night .how can i do it without making the baby cry and suffer.
Please suggest .

I read somewhere that bananas before bed actually help a lot. As strange as it sounds, several moms claimed it worked for their babies.

I did not want to do cry it out so we both did not sleep for 10 months until my milk disappeared and he ended up crying when he woke up for 3 nights. Since then (it's been 8 months now), he sleeps 11 hours a night straight. He became a much happier baby after he started getting uninterrupted sleep. Well, and I became a much happier mom.I wish I did cry it out earlier. I think I read every possible book and website on baby sleep. Nothing but cry it out worked for us.

I had to do cry it out when my son was 5 months old and I never could have stuck it out if I hadn't been totally exhausted that particular night.  He cried for one hour and 20 minutes.  That was the longest I ever heard it took anyone (although later I read about some babies who held out longer).  I can totally understand why someone couldn't do it because I almost went to get him about 80 times.  Most painful 80 minutes of my life.  It is very counterintuitive.  If it hadn't worked in one night I probably wouldn't have continued it.

It did work that night though.  He slept through the night that night. He was waking up every three hours before that. I still had to let him cry for a while every night for less and less time before he would fall asleep.  Never again anywhere near 80 minutes. He eventually didn't cry at all and it didn't take that long either, two weeks maybe. Unfortunately, every time after recovering from being sick or there was a time change I had to do it again for a night or two.

Same here Mae Jacob Ka! My 5 and 4 year old (now 6 and 4 yo) slept with me until my new baby (nearly 3 months old) was born. I really made a rod for my own back with that. The only way they stopped was to put the baby in bed with me (in a basinette) and drum home to them how we cant fit, and it's dangerous for bub if they were in there too etc. I had let them sleep in my bed due to being tired and not wanting to have to get up and down all night taking them back to bed. But the good sleep early on really comes at a high price later on.

Every child is different, my opinion, I cant stand cry it out, nor would I ever do that to my child or anothers. Every child is different when it comes to, well, practically everything. I used to be up about every 2-3 hours a night with my daughter breast feeding her. But my husband and I started keeping her awake more during the day, no naps the last 5-6 hours of the day and made sure her belly was full, diaper clean, and sang her night-night song, then put on soft slow country music (what she likes) and she sleeps all night. Surprisingly she is only 4 months old. The thing is just being in a consistent routine everyday, that's what really helps.

8 months old baby can appreciate thing already, you can read him/her a book that has a big pictures, make her/him tired on it by introducing all pictures in the book.
