Hi nissan!

Here are some activity ideas which I have not read from any where but rather invented by myself! I thought your thread was about self made games but I just realized it was about DIY games. I will still go through my notes for links to other games on internet and post them to next post.

  LOL

With my 10 month old we are having this activity we both enjoy. In the first variant my baby is in my lap and he babbles his typical sounds and I write them at the same time to the computer. He enjoys this a lot and laughs a lot also when I write animal sounds or common item names to the computer. We also do similar phonics play with his alphabet curtains. He basically babbles some letters and I point them out from the curtain and say the letter sounds and some words starting with that letter clearly. Yesterday he actually pointed one letter and said the letter phonics correctly after playing the game for couple of minutes.

One game I thought would be fun with a five or six year old would be to collect a bunch of flowers and plants and find their names from a book or from internet. I am not certain how this would play out but we could try to guess which of the plants are of the same family and tribe. After doing this, we could try to find out the scientific names and families for plants and try to identify which plants are really close to each others and which are not.

I am also thinking that when our LO is older we could try finding some facts from the internet by giving this kind of exact search tasks to the LO one by one:
* Who was Cleopatra?
* Who built the pyramids?
* Who lives in the Vatican?
* Who built the statue of liberty?
* Who built the Statue of Christ?
* Why the Great wall of China was built?
* What is the periodic table of elements?
* Who is Einstein/ Churchill/ Michael Angelo/ Batman/ Superman and why he is famous?
* What is Pompeii?
* How many people live in the world?
* What is the longest river in the world?

One activity that is fun and we do it quite often in kids birthdays is fishing with a bucket. I am not certain is this a game used in other cultures too so I add it to here. The idea is to have blanket put on a doorway to hide the lower part of the doorway. Then a child is give a stick which has a bucket hanging on the other end from a robe. Then the child can start fishing by moving the stick and taking the bucket on the other side of the blanket. Behind the blanket an adult puts a small candy or surprise to the bucket and pulls the robe to signal that the bucket can be drawn back. This is fun. Usually the blanket is blue like a water.

That's all the unique ideas I have! Have fun!

Glow in the dark Ring Toss- Glow stick, tape, cone/stick/etc.  Attach two glow sticks together on both ends. Then tape them together where they are attached. Place your cone/stick a good distance away.
Glow in the dark Hopscotch- Items needed: Glow stick & tape. Attach two glow sticks together on both ends. Then tape them together where they are attached. Place them on the ground & hop away.
Water Balloon Baseball- All you need is a bucket full of water balloons & a baseball bat.
Tin Can Toss- Items Needed: Tine cans & ball. Stock them up & toss the ball at them. This can even be a diy project. Get a few sheets of paper (size of the tin can) & let your little one decorate them how ever they want. Tape or glue it to the tin cans.
Bowling-  Items needed: 10 water bottles, paint, balls & any other item you want to use to decorate the bottle. Have your child paint/decorate the bottles let them dry before you let them bowl. (Tip if you have younger kids super glue the tops on)
Balloon Treasure Hunt- Items needed: Balloons, marker, paper. Write clues/hints on the paper & fold it up really small. Before blowing up the balloons put paper inside. You can number the balloons if you like. Place them through out the house. Of course they will have to pop the balloon to read the clues. At the end of the Treasure Hunt they get a reward (TREASURE) (Depending on the age this game can be changed up a bit. It also may have to be monitored.)
