For all you who teach Latin

Not sure if there is anyone on here that teach Latin to their children ( other than me). But wanted to share two programs, one that I've tried os far but the second one is recentley coming out.

The first one is Song School Latin by Classical Academic press. This program teaches children Latin by using songs. This one we have used and I love it. Actually I just lost the CD and need to get a new one but honestly even I remember the words by remembering the songs. LOL.  It gives you both Ecclesiastical and Classical pronuciations. You can use this with the youngest of children up to maybe around age 8 or so. Then some kids think its 'babish' after that. Not all though. My 11 yr old still likes to listen to the songs. I enjoy listening along with my girls. Totally worth getting.

A new program that I just learned about this evening that looks very promising is I Speak Latin. From the looks of the samples this is very hands on and reminds me of the book I just recently read of a mom who journaled how she taught her daughter back in 1912. Anyways this looks to be a very natural approach to learning a foreign language (even if you all think its dead. LOL)   Since I haven't used the program and don't have the book this is just my assumption of the program thus far.

I know. I didn't know Latin at all when I started to teach my daughters.
What I like for the older levels is the DVD programs.
Once you get past something like Song School Latin , I know that Classical Academic press has a DVD program for the rest of the levels. I used Latina Christiana series just because I wanted my daughters to learn the prayers ( we are Catholic) and prefer the Ecclesiastical pronunciation over Classical.  I was able to learn it easier by watching it on the television versus listening to it on a CD.  Plus it keeps us on track too.

Thanks for the resources and the idea of Latin. I took Latin years ago for entering the medical field, so maybe I will later on start working with my LO's.

Thanks TracyR4, for starting a thread on Latin.

I only had one year of Latin, but I have been reading enough about teaching it that I am convinced I would like to make it a basic subject throughout my daughter's schooling. I am very excited that there are lesson plans geared to very young learners. And 9 months (my daughter's age) may still be too young... but songs that teach Latin! That's great!

What was the title of the book that you read where the woman who kept a journal of teaching her daughter? I would love to read it.
