White House wanting to deport Christian family for Homeschooling

It's a shame that the White House has taken this stance when it's clear that the education in public schools needs to be greatly improved.  Anyone in Germany heard of this situation?

Pretty unexpected and shocking statement isnt it?

I was reminded of something Santorum (Presidential candidate at the time) said to the media a while ago : "“For the first hundred years or so, most of the first families homeschooled. We know for a fact that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were educated at home, along with numerous other American leaders.” The world is changing isnt it?

Here is another interesting excerpt from the same speech ( from NY Times) :

For the first 150 years, most presidents home-schooled their children at the White House, he said. “Where did they come up that public education and bigger education bureaucracies was the rule in America? Parents educated their children, because it’s their responsibility to educate their children.”

“Yes the government can help,” Mr. Santorum added. “But the idea that the federal government should be running schools, frankly much less that the state government should be running schools, is anachronistic. It goes back to the time of industrialization of America when people came off the farms where they did home-school or have the little neighborhood school, and into these big factories, so we built equal factories called public schools. And while those factories as we all know in Ohio and Pennsylvania have fundamentally changed, the factory school has not.”

I think each parent should have the right to decide what is the best approach and method for giving education to their children, it is really the fundamental parent right.

Thank you for the link.  I shared it on facebook and a mini drama ensued.  Their story makes me so sad, and so angry.  It's such hypocrisy for the American government to be so concerned about granting amnesty to illegal aliens and then turning around and slapping this family who has tried to do everything right.  It's so political, and especially for this family, it's not right.  My prayers go out to them.

Thanks for the links, Tamsyn.  I just watched them and feel so sad for this family.  They sure need our prayers.  The comments from the Obama Administration are frightening.  I will be following this case while praising God that I am able and legally allowed to homeschool my children.

As a Canadian looking in, WOW the US government is truly messed up. As long as they are honest working, tax paying people leave them be! They should be focusing their time on deporting illegal Mexican drug dealers.

I put my daughter into a Montessori Charter school this past year, it was a difficult decision. We were planning on homeschooling because of reasons I don't need to explain to you ladies. There is no learning going on in public schools today! They focus on memorization and creating better test takers rather than creative learners... so sad : ( We take away sports and the arts thinking it will help in the classroom, and we rank #17 in education. This from one source, I've heard we're lower down the chain from another source. I could go on and on... It's sick that our right to educate our children at home is always threatened.

The really crazy part about the Romeikes is that they have ALREADY been granted amnesty by the courts. It is almost unheard of for an AttyGen to attempt to deport someone who has already been granted amnesty unless they are determined to threaten national security or something. This is a very personal vendetta by the current administration. It is anyone's guess why they are doing this...to curry favor with the German PM maybe? Who knows?!
