Hi,
I am from Chennai. Presently I live in Kuwait. I registered in this site long back when i was Pregnant. But did not use it. Only a month back I went back into this site and found it amazing. I started to create powerpoints and download others also. I am earning points to get my LR for free. I am nearing my points. i hope by next week I will reach to get it free.

Hi all,
I am from India, as well. Chennai, to be precise. Mom of a 8-month-old boy.
I am definitely benefiting a lot from Brillkids.
Nirupa, I too bought the kit from Little Gems and found that it was of no use.
1. My son was not interested in flashcards.
2. It had only 250 words in English. I am sure 250 words is no way close to the vocabulary one needs to know in order to read a language.
3. The pictures in their picture cards did not look very real.
4. They have modified the Doman method to their advantage. They insist on showing encyclopedic knowledge from 6 month onwards, though Doman recommends EK after Reading and Math.
I am presently using their word cards for problem solving. I wish I could have bought LR and LM for the money I spent buying from Little Gems.
Can someone please tell me in what way is LR better than showing just powerpoint presentations?
Nirupa, are you using LR? Also, I would be interested in Tamil powerpoint presentations. Would be glad if you can share it.
Regards,
Questers.

Hi Everyone,
I'm from Chennai residing in Melbourne. Thank you ladies (I planned to buy the materials from Little Gems....Now, I stopped)
Nirupa..I'm interested in downloading tamil Presentations.
I go with Questers, even I'm interested in get to know about LR and LM...ALso want to know how better is LM & LR form other presentations...
I have started teaching my 23 month old son with some of the downloaded presentations, and bought some books for him....
Being a working mother, I could teach him only once in a day. Still he is coping well and catch up with the words...
But, I'm looking for something better topics(like, about geography, nature, countries, culture etc...) Also I want to teach him Maths....
Can anyone help me how to start Maths for 23 month old...I don't believe that my son will see the dots in flsh card(he may tear them)?

Sangamithra,
Yeah, it is likely that the baby may be interested in grabbing and tearing/chewing the card than actually seeing it. My son wanted to do the same. I have started showing math on powerpoint. He seems to be interested. I use different color dots each time to keep his interest up. I am also contemplating on buying LM after getting to know something about it. Let me see...

hi everyone.... I am from Bangalore...
I have done ISP course ( offered by SSY ).. and also using LM & LR..
I guess I can help u by sharing my experience..
I have been using both dot cats & LM for maths. for a few days my son enjoyed dot cards along with the simple problems of addition & subtraction.. then he just refused to see them.
after a few a days I found LM & started all over again.. he is happy now & enjoys it..
the difference that I felt
1. LM have got a lot of options of icons which are more interesting than red dots.
2. LM is easy to use. its simple & effortless
3. the schedules available for download are very helpful. if you follow them you will have no difficulty in showing maths.
this is the basic difference that I felt.
as for LR, I would say it is much better than flash cards & improved presentation than ppts.. u have much more options.. my son is just crazy for it. LR is words+picture+sound which makes it interesting for kids.
I show him hand made flash cards also.. if you are in India you can buy flash cards in Hindi , English & Sanskrit from ISP. it will give you the starting guideline for making your own flash cards. each set contains about 250 words.
Results are great.. if I see around he is much aware of things as compared to his age kids. he knows most of the vegetables, fruits, vehicles, shapes, colors, animals, household things & the list goes on...
I have not seen much results in maths but I guess I need to wait for a few yrs.. only thing he does is - whenever he sees a few cars or autos together he'll say some number..
In short LM & LR is a good investment for me...

Hi,
I am from Pune, currently in Texas. I started teaching my son a month ago (he is 7 months now). He loves the LR. I am also doing Doman math cards with him. Is anyone teaching their child how to read Marathi? we may be able to help each other make presentations. Does anyone know where I may get marathi flashcards?
Thank you for the information about ISP. I will definitely check it out when I go to India.
Best wishes!

Preethi - I missed your post earlier.
Regarding the schedule:
Day one: You will show 5 words. Repeat this 3 times a day.
Day two: You will do the first set 3 times. You will add a second set of five new words, also 3 times.
Day three: In addition to the first two sets, you will now add a third set of 5 new words. All three sets shown 3 times a day.
Day four: Add a fourth set of 5 new words. So totally 4 sets three times a day.
Day five: Add the fifth set of 5 new words. That makes 5 sets in total, each set containing 5 words, so 25 words in all.
Day six: You baby would have seen the first set for 5 days x3 times, totally 15 times. You can now remove one old word (the one that is seen 15 times) from each group (please arrange it in a way that one old word goes into each group). You will remove the words from the first set. This is called retiring. You will add 5 new words to each group. Like this, you will continue to remove 5 old words everyday and add 5 new words to each group everyday.
To summarize, you will be showing 25 words daily, divided into 5 sets of 5 words each. Five words will be retired each day and 5 new words will be added each day. You will show each set 3 times a day. So lifespan of one word will be 15 times totally. You will show one word for one second.
The above are not hard and fast rules. This is just a guideline given by Dr. Doman. You can modify it to suit your baby's needs.
Please feel free to ask if you are still not clear.
Shaman - Welcome board. Regarding Marathi flashcards, no idea. Perhaps somebody else could help.

Hi All,
Questers,
Thanks much for the detailed description on the reading method , I would also be happy to get to know about the GD dot method any specific guidelines on your sucess with this method .
Math sems to be a lil confusing when I went thru few websites , I have started to prepare the math dot card but got struck inbetween coz of the decrease in size of the dots since the quantity increases, can somebody guide me here , is there any specific size for the board paper (am using size equals A4 + 1/4 th of A4), can I fit in dots till 100 in the same sized board paper....valuable suggestions required.....
Regarding the reading method i have few doubts to be cleared....
1. do I have to flash cards on basis of categories ? (read from GD that we have EK where we can introduce categories....)
2.Presently I have prepared about 400+ word cards (which would interest my babies) is this enough to begin with.....
3. when can I start with math and EK....(yet to start with reading)
4.Can I combine the YBCR along while I flash cards....
5.When can I introduce couplets...
thanks in advance for the valuable suggestions..
Regards

Hi Preethi,
Here are my 10 cents-
I am teaching my baby using Doman math cards and I think (If you are in US), it is both cost and time effective to buy them from IAHP institute-It costs around $ 50- they give discounts sometimes- got mine for $40. They have equations on the back of the cards as well, so that is really helpful.
You seem to be very organized and have prepared well- you can start the reading program when you have prepared atleast 200 cards.
When I wrote to the institutes to find out how I should proceed- they asked me to start with the reading program first and then add math and EK (after i was comfortable with the reading cards). I had planned all of this well, but my baby decided to change my plans
- he did not like the word cards but LOVED the math cards- so I started with math. Then I bought the LR and he loved it- now we do both- math and LR. My word flash cards seem to be of no use now
I hope to incorporate them in our curriculum later.
Also, Doman suggests that we do 10 math cards a day- but we do only 5 right now- I'll add more cards slowly. You will also have to see how many cards your baby likes to see- he many not neccessarily pay attention to 5 cards in one session, he may want to see only 3 at first- whatever happens, don't give up and let your baby guide you. The idea after all is to have fun teaching and learning
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
