LR and down syndrome

just recently ran across the LR program.  I have a 6 yr old daughter with down syndrome.  Would it be helpful for her?  Many of you use this at much younger ages but i didnt know about it!

I am not an expect, but I would say that LR can definitely help with vocabulary building, and reading instructions, and the good thing you can repeat each lesson several times and every time your child would see words written in different color, different font and size, illustrated with different picture and video and pronounced by a different person, -- the algorithm that works well for special needs children, as it is repetition combined with variety at the same time. Just a thought! I am looking forward to responses from the parents that use LR with their older children with special needs!

You also can print out flash cards straight from LR lesson and use them for various games!

I have a little girl with Down Syndrome in my daycare - we've been using LR with her for 2 years now. Obviously expectations are much lower than with the other children I work with. I don't think she is too old. This is a whole language approach which is basically what the school are using to teach Down Syndrome children to read. It is super easy to use & the kids really enjoy it. i would look through the Special Needs board and review some of the thread there.Some of the kids prefer the flash cards - I know Miss C. also prefers flash cards, but we have her using Soft Mozart and she takes Suzuki violin lessons and pre-school - I just don't have time to make the cards for her. She is making very good progress. I can't imagine we'll stop anytime soon. We went through the program almost to the end and when the new version came out I just started her back over from the very beginning. It is hard to know how much she knows. She won't tell you but loves the repetition, so this is not going to hurt her.
