LM: More icons please....

It is really hard to catch my son's attention in Math dots but when he saw the fruit icons, his
eyes don't leave the monitor.

I think he is interested to things that look real. When I switched it to shapes, he doesn't want
to look at it.

Can we add icons like horse, kangaroo, dogs, leaf, crayon, etc... anything that looks real like the fruits.
Or can we upload something to make it an icon? like, I want to make his ball an icon so that when he sees it I'm sure he will be very delighted.

I would like to make my grandson's doll and puppy an icon. Can you explain how to make an icon please. Thank you in advance. Can we just take a picture and shrink it to certain size?

I know an icon my little guy would like is the baby picture that comes up on LR and LM. He loves that!

We will be making more icon sets in the future (just like we continue to make LR categories), but don't let that stop you from making your own!

It's very very simple to make your own icon sets!

Just go to your Number Library, click on the ICONS tab, and press NEW to create a new icon set.  Then click on ADD ICON(S) to start adding your own pictures from your hard drive! That's it!  LMt will automatically resize the pictures for you when it shows it.

You could use your own personal pictures (eg., family faces!), or find free icons from the web!

There are many free icon sites on the web, such as:

When choosing icons, go for those which have either a white background, or better still, transparent background.

If you're using your own personal pictures, and if you're more computer savvy and can edit pictures, then what I would suggest is to use an image editor (such as Picture Editor that comes with LR HB) to do the following edits:

- CROP the picture so that the focus is on the subject you want. Eg., use pictures of your child's own face! Or family faces! Crop the pic so that the picture is as tight around the face as possible.
(if possible, try to keep the final shape as SQUARE as possible)

- RESIZE the picture to a width of no more than about 300 px wide. This is not absolutely necessary, but by reducing the image size (and therefore the file size), you will use less of your computer's system resources whenever you display the pics.

- COLOR OUT THE BACKGROUND - For more advanced users, the best thing is if you could color out the background with white color so that the subject matter will totally stand out.  If you keep a white background, then color your icon backgrounds white. (advanced image editors: best to make the background transparent so it will 'work' on whatever background color.
(or if you're just choosing pictures to upload, then try to choose pictures which have white backgrounds).

How can you use the picture editor in LM? I see the tab but it is shaded gray like it's unavailable to use.

LR's PE is currently no integrated into LMt.  Please access PE through the Windows Start menu / BrillKids / Little Reader folder.

How do I change the existing colour of the yellow plane icon?  Personally, I feel that the yellow object is too soft to his catch attention.  I can't access "picture editor" according to your path.

Hi Davinci,

Only the "Basic Shapes" icons can have their colors adjusted.  All other iconsets are images and must be edited by an image editor like Picture Editor.

Do you have Little Reader HOME BASIC? Picture Editor does not come with Little Reader LITE.  If you have LR HB, then you can also find the application "Picture Editor.exe" in C:\Program Files\BrillKids\Little Reader HOME BASIC\ .

As for the plane, as noted in another post, this icon and others will have more prominent outlines around them in the next build.

When I added the new icons to the Icon sets, the icons were looked great as displayed. However, the images were becoming so blur when I played it. Anyway to fix it?

Also, what screen resolution are you using?
