Is the new version of LM available? If not when and what will the new content be?

When I downloaded the new LR version 1.5 from my Account Management, I noticed that there is LM version 1.5 too on the “Software + License Keys” page.  Are we supposed to uninstall the current LM version 1.1.111 and install the LM 1.5 too?  What I new for this LM version 1.5?

As mentioned in the main announcement, the LM curriculum is slightly delayed but should be released this week.

If you installed a fresh build (without keeping your old library), you should see 10 days (2 weeks) worth of lessons.  When the curriculum is released, it will be in the same place as the LR extra content packs in your Account Management.

Whether you uninstall LM or not has the same considerations as what we wrote about LR - if there's not much content you want to keep, better you export the files and reimport them back into the new one.  Otherwise, make a copy of your Data and Media Library folders, and then install 1.5 over it.

You will then see 1.5 with your old content (without any new content).  Later, just download the new curriculum and that's it.

There aren't many new features for LM compared to LR (since LM came much later than LR and LR had a lot of catching up to do).  One of the features is that you can now choose to omit '0' from equations.

I have installed the new one without uninstalling the old version because I would like to keep all old media files.  However, after I installed the new one, a pop-up box showed that it has detected some previous media files and asked me to ensure that nothing is accessing that folder.  I clicked OK and nothing happened.   And I can't see the old media files in the new LM.   

What should I do now?

Hi tina,

Depending on the speed of your computer, the process of migrating your old database into the latest version of Little Reader could take up a substantial amount of time, please be patient while the software works in the background.

With regards to your Start Guide, what version of Internet Explorer and Adobe Flash do you have installed?  The more up-to-date your software is, the more likely our software will run as intended.

Sorry for the threadjack, but since you mentioned about Adobe Flash, I want to ask you this:

LR takes a lot of time to load. It also takes sometime to migrate between tabs. Is this because it has a lot of data in it (its newly purchased, so not much old content) or is it because of the Adobe Flash ?

Can you please clarify this for me?

Speed performance of LR/LM would have got nothing to do with Adobe Flash. (Adobe Flash is only relevant to the video tutorials on the Start Guide.)  Speed issues are typically to do with computing power, especially RAM.

What are your computer specs? And do you also get slow performance with LR?

I was asking about LR only, not LM. (I have only trial version of LM currently, which is fast).

Here are my computer specs:

Memory Modules:
766 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'J6G1' has 256 MB
Slot 'J6G2' has 512 MB

Processor:
1.70 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Drives:
40.00 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
3.23 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

Hi Questers,

Your system is a little on the low end of the spectrum, that's all.  Don't worry, I'm running 1.8ghz with 2gb ram and LR still switches between tabs quite choppily on mine.    It's a hefty program!  At home I run 4.1ghz with 4gb ram and that runs LR smoother though.

In your situation, to mitigate the slowness you can try closing down all programs and services that you don't absolutely need to run, to free up as much processing power as possible.

I somehow missed to reply to your post. Thanks for the reply...Yeah I have several programs running when I show LR as I work at home. So closing down everything everytime seems little difficult...Anyway, I think I can put up with this speed until I upgrade my PC. Thanks for your suggestion...

Another question about LM. Even after I close LM after using it, it seems to always appear when I click Alt + Tab to migrate between programs. If i select it, there it opens again...Do I have to give "end process" in the task manager every time? Will this affect the performance in anyway? This happens only with LM, not LR.

Hi Questers,

Yes, this is a slight glitch caused by the BrillKids Startup Agent (found in your taskbar as a BrillKids butterfly icon).  The Startup Agent preloads BrillKids software so that you don't have to wait as long to boot it up when you decide to use it, and occasionally the preloaded process might accidentally show up in your alt+tab dialogue.

You may right-click the icon to alter the settings for the Startup Agent, or close it entirely.  There is also an option to prevent the Startup Agent from running each time you turn on your computer, which will entirely prevent LM from spontaneously show up.
