Override Page-
Customization options- This has gotten Much, Much better thank you  smile

In override- This is almost what i suggested/requested for a "one page" customization options......

Now, we have 5 setting options for override...word, picture, media, word-media-word,
but they are... too all in one???
they can overlap where not wanted.
I also want to say that i actually like the overlap....sometimes. as always, it comes down to having a choice on that day. Don't take it away, just add

Word Flash, should be JUST the word....flash for 1 sec.

Same thing goes for "Picture Flash"

What I would like to be able to set up is more like what we had in V1...
but with options to add more displays of ...word, media and pictures ...

ex. Here is a "Favorite Setting" i'd like to try and save...

word ( flash 1 sec like the flash concept is based on ) but add...
Word Flash -
1. how many displays of the word
2. Different fonts
3. Different Colors
4. Pronunciations -

Randomize or by list... ( but randomize within the specific category )

Multi-sensory- ( In auto-mode ) give us all options in current "common"  options.

picture flash- all 'common options"

We can do part of this with current customize your lessons section.
for each actual lesson. that is a good feature, thank you.

Now if u could add these to override, we could set the days lesson with one click,
like we do now just with more options
AND not have to go through each lesson of each day when we find a combo we like.

I previously suggested a " Favorites" list? or a Preferences section...
let us set up a few different configurations
and once done, LR remembers them and we click that box for the day and off we go.

The more i use V2, the more i really want that. Why? Because you've given us an inch....
there are so many cool options, there are so many combination's.

I would like to "keep my house/lesson plan orderly", smile
Pretty please smile
I hope that all makes sense??
Thank you

Editing Options ---Off topic- Could we get a button up top here in the forum submit area of a few of the most used colors? Red at least? I try to highlight Most important thoughts, topics or questions just with one color so it doesn't get distracting. Thank you

Hi Guys,
I've just re-read my post and wanted to say, as usual, i seem to be suggesting "Dream" features for V5 as well as the requested "Live in the Moment of this reality " smile

After using the cool custom personalize features i can tinker with,
the more it's inspired me to really use the system to the best of it's potential.

I've noticed, with all children, that they get bored seeing or doing the same thing over & over again. smile except when the exact opposite is true smile.

I've decided that I want to add a substantial amount of personal files to the system and i'm realizing just how much time that is going to take.
EX. family members, young cousins mainly as i find baby Wyatt responds really well to children.
My Goal.... adding a min of
- 2-4 recordings of pronunciation for each existing word in standard curriculum
- 2-4 recordings of the description for each existing word in standard curriculum

Also, a minimum of 200 new words with all needed files per word or name....
pictures of family, his toys, his home etc.

Big goals, but i know whatever time i can find to add to the program, Wyatt already clearly likes.
No question at all that he is more interested in the personal additions.

So, the more automatic the better.

This is a follow up on previous posts Re: Little Reader suggestions - Help us improve Little Reader!
search for...
Mass info and KL termed it " Intelligent Sorting" ..suggestions LR. mass audio record & auto sort- per category????
 http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader/little-reader-suggestions/msg61235/#msg61235

Editing Options-
Trim audio- very cool and easy to use
. --- I've noticed some of my recordings go long so it's silent ...
so pointer speed is not correct.
I'm guessing that happens when i didn't use the trim feature, before i found it. It's really easy to use once i found it and it's actually kind of fun smile
BUT.....do we have to use it or is there an auto audio trim feature that would sense the silence and trim it to optimum length before and after sound stops? We still have the play/review button if we create a file that has a pause that computer interprets as too long silent.

I've noticed ,after wards, when i'm playing full categories with wyatt, some of my recordings are much quieter.
( I'm going to get an actual plug in microphone rather than use my built in one. ...

Next day......I just bought a " Snowball " from the company "Blue".
Approx $110 and  i'm looking forward to trying it out because i'm going to
add a LOT of extra audio files and pictures to the full curriculum AND family category.)

But, if you could create an all around button that makes the best corrections that it can,
that would be more enticing to use.
make it ....louder, softer, less static. trim etc.
then we "Play" button to judge if its good, then...save or try again...

What about a total Optimize for every category. An all in one per file?-
   - Maybe that's what "normalize" button is supposed to be??
I have tried it but some recordings seem too soft when compared to the pros.

Yes, there's a reason they sound like pros. You've hired good people and done all the optimizing smile

Maybe if our part isn't good enough
, even after going through normalize or optimize...
we get a warning pop up saying not up to proper standards,
we recommend u try again? then we know and can choose.

ex. in my I-Photo and probably all photo programs, there is a button in edit..
" Enhance ".
I suppose that where things are naturally heading towards without me suggesting, but just in case, is more "Automatic everything".

Some people like to spend hours tinkering with every possible combination of options to get a picture just the way they want it.
just custom.
Most people, i think, just want the fiddling to be done for them. That's the category i'm in after spending some time using the cool features.
I want to have my personal stuff in the program. I really do.

I understand, and keep telling myself, that there's lots of time smile I don't have to do it all in one sitting.
But that really is the goal i keep coming back to because going one recording by one, even with the great improvements,
still has multiple clicks and realistically takes a lot of time.

I understand as a training video producer, that's just the way it is with current tech. Certainly for creating professional products.
But for a home user..... sometimes good enough is good enough. A good all around new word submission today
( text, multiple photo's, multiple video's, multiple audios )....... is better than a perfect submission tomorrow or more likely....
.....never, because it will always be on our list to get to sometime.
Finding ways to ... 1. create, 2. Input 3. optimize 4. test 5. Save to LR Or delete and try again...

We do the personalize part.... ie record our voice in your "add audio area" ( WAAAY better by the way...in one place ),
add picture and add video ( i haven't tried yet. a little more intimidated by that than the others actually. kind of on point actually ).

We input our personal file into your system
and press the magic "auto-enhance" and
your system makes the best of what we have submitted to suit your system.
Wouldn't that be cool???
Whew, on to the next of the hundreds of files i want to add. ( until the real dream V6,7 or 8?? with mass info auto Intelligent sorting  smile )

Size of file-length, mb etc., increase sound if its too soft, soften out the edges if it's to background noise etc., etc...
Anyway, i think that's the short to medium term "dream" button.

Thank you all for your hard and  intelligent & creative work to make everything better every day.
Good job!!
Make Today Count!

Hi Guys,

First i want to say that i was mistaken in my last diagnostic report bug RE: customize lesson. OOps , sorry. Brain freeze. blush

1. Can you please make the default in custom settings
       a) use split display mode ( colors- red & blue )
       b) display words with pictures/video
These seem to me to be "Top Notch" additions and i can't think of a reason why people wouldn't want to use them. Choice is good thank you, but i'd really like them to be the defaults. It would save me a lot of time.

2. A small & unimportant observation.....
AFTER SEND DIAGNOSTIC REPORT-thank you report has been sent- close that- suggest auto close of other 2 screens- not sure if it was sent. usually other programs close them so there is no question that it's been sent, even though you give us a pop up that says that it has, once i close that... i was still wondering. Maybe that's just me but that's what i thought so i'm pretty sure i sent it again.

Thank you for your considering my thoughts smile

HI SCott,

Good tip about making the show word with pic/vid option as default. Forgot about that!  Should also make the auto-pointer a default setting too.

However, we deliberately didn't make the split mode to be on by default, because right now the split colors don't get randomized yet (still on our to-do list), so if it were on, then the child will keep seeing only those specified split colors.

Noted your other suggestions, thanks!

Hi KL,
You're welcome. I'm happy you like them and i appreciate you saying so.

oh yeah smile i missed the pointer as default. of course, same reason to make default. It's a major new benefit.

Ahhh, that makes sense about the randomized colors.

I've still got more observations coming that i'm working on presenting properly.  there are also suggestions that i've made and you have asked me questions about that i haven't replied to yet. There is also one or 2 things that you've said no to that, inmy opinion, i haven't explained well enough to persuade you over to my debating side smile

Update on our progress...We've been using it 2-3 times a day and really loving it. It's been an invaluable way for father & son to bond when i haven't been able to do the more traditional daddy "physical" play/bonding with him.

He's even starting to demand it by slapping both hands on the couch where we usually place the laptop and yelling..dadadadadada, even when it's not there. The first time he did it, it took his grandma and I approx. 45 seconds before we figured it out smile

On a completely surprising to me note... I just reached my 50th post and received a second star next to my name.
The surprising part was how much a little star or a notice at the bottom of a page about winning something or doing well etc. etc. made me smile smile

hehe, i'll take all the happy i can get. Thanks everyone.

Thank you for the "drag and drop" option for the file import. That was my deepest desire!

We are starting to teach our daughter Russian. So I downloaded most of LR Russian LR files and happily imported them by dragging and dropping. 15 files at once. It worked!

Files in the category window were too many now, so I created several new folders. happy!

When I dragged and dropped the next 15 files, I could not specify a particular point where to add these files. So the new files distributed themselves in several folders. this is a bug I think smile

When I managed the files in several folders it was a bit annoying that every folder expanded after I added something in it. file window is so small and I can not see other folders to manage them. So I had to collapse manually every folder after I added something in it.  I am used to folders which do not expand if I move a file in. I do not know if it is a bug or not smile

Hi Frukc,

Glad you love the drag-and-drop feature!  laugh

Yes, the "new files distributed themselves in several folders" issue is indeed a bug -- what should happen is that newly imported lessons will be added at the bottom of the Category/Playlist list, and not inserted randomly in the list. This usually happens when importing Categories/Playlists that come individually (i.e., they were not initially placed inside a folder before these were exported by the one who created them).

About re-organizing your Categories (or Playlists): Not sure if you tried this already, but just to let you know, you can actually select many items at a time and drag these into a folder so you can transfer many things in one go. As for the folders expanding whenever you add something in it, this is how it should work, and perhaps it may help you (re: small window size) if you "maximized" the Little Reader window itself.

You may also expand the panels in the Advanced Play/Edit screen, although you can only expand these horizontally at this point. To do this, find the vertical bars in between each panel, and click-and-drag to the left or right to make either panel narrower or wider. I've attached a screenshot showing where this vertical bar is in case you can't find it.

Has testing of v2.0 finished?  I was advised by the technical support to upgrade to 2.0 because I can't play a file that was sent to me by another member with the version I currently have, 1.6.342 (UK) and it won't open files sent to me by another user (who I presume made them with a US version)

It asks whether to import the file labelled action_words.cat into my Word Library and I say yes with auto resolve naming conflicts.

Then an error message comes up "Cannot find central directory"

Hi mtb999,

LR 2.0 is still in the Beta Testing phase, although we highly recommend that everyone upgrade to the latest version for many reasons (as mentioned in the email bulletin we sent out about it recently).

Regarding your importing problem, there should be no problems in importing files even if these were created using a different version. The "Cannot find central directory" error you are encountering is likely caused by a corrupted file -- perhaps you were not able to download this file completely, or there was a problem in the file itself (please ask the user who sent it to you).

Hi, I just have a query about the options for when showing a video in 2.0.
For some videos I don't want to have the word bar at the bottom, for example if it is just the title for quite a long video it can be quite distracting from the content of the video and also not really relevant.  I've tried to find a way to remove but I can't see so far!  Could you help please.

Thanks!

BTW - otherwise I love the new version!

Hi lzp11,

Yes, you can just turn off this particular feature (words below picture and video slides). Just toggle the Playback Settings tab of a specific Course, Playlist, or Category, and un-check the "Display words with pictures/videos" item, or if you want to turn this off for all your lessons, you may do so via the Override window.

Note that this will turn off the "word bar" for both picture and video slides, as right now we don't have separate "switches" for these.  blush

He's even starting to demand it by slapping both hands on the couch where we usually place the laptop and yelling..dadadadadada, even when it's not there.
The first time he did it, it took his grandma and I approx. 45 seconds before we figured it out smile

When backing up files, either before an upgrade or just to back up- its difficult to remember all the files i've added to.
is there a way or Can u give a search feature for list of files changed so we can b sure to not lose any of the efforts we've creted?
a Select all then save would be great.

recording audio issues
i've noticed that normalize brings it up but not down.
looking forward to manual for sound and noise buttons but i've figured lot's of it out and have enjoyed using it.
A cut and paste would b nice. There is a cut and that's helpful for long pauses.

Why we should have a longer delay time choice , for multi-sensory in auto-forward mode;
each  ...word, media, picture, pattern phonics
KL mentioned a good reason for why there is only a very short delay.

My thoughts on why i'd like u to re-consider...
We would want option to have delay up to 5-10 seconds and
have the choice for each separately..word, media, picture, pattern phonics. ie. We'd choose a longer pause for picture than word.

I agree with KL about the reasons for having the multi-sensory a more interactive time. As it is now, It's really best not to use auto forward here.
We usually don't. I want time to talk to him about each slide in this mode  But options are always nice and i'd like to experiment.

-- in the morning time, it's a lot easier to cuddle with him in bed with a laptop when i don't have to keep pressing buttons.
auto forward with keyboard & mouse lock-is a good feature but i don't want to NOT interact with him.

Sometimes though, he's calmer and not in a mood to push every button he can through the whole program...... options are needed because of the many and changing moods of a young child.
Sometimes i would not have keyboard locked so MOST of the time, i wouldn't have to press any butttons but i could
go forward if he's bored with one slide or go back to see it again.
I use these buttons a lot actually to match his mood.

Also, can you make a " pause" key? that would come in sooooo handy when we get interrupted or if he decides he's done, we could pause and come back later to continue where we left off. What about using the up arrow key?
You're already using the other 3 for forward, replay and forward, so it's a perfect place for a one handed " no need to look" control.

--- Default settings WHen we're going through the course curriculum.
You've now made the best new options the default, mostly. Well done for that thank you.

IMO, I think Default should be set to use Split color mode , for all ( word, multi-sensory, picture, pattern phonics ) .
I understand that, at the moment until u find a solution, there is a conflict with this feature and the random background color for both the text and picture/video.
IMO the split color feature is more important because of the better teaching of syllables.
I certainly hope in the future you can work out the random colors so that it will exclude a combination that obscures
the word because i think the random colors keep it interesting for him.

what i've noticed is that i've been experimenting with all the really great options. when i find something i like,
example.... we really like setting 3 pictures instead of the default 1 picture.
it would be very helpful/time saving if once we've made a set of changes for each ...word, multi-sensory, picture, pattern phonics....
we either...
 a) have the option to " save changes and make default " for each
or
b) automatically make that set of changes be the default UNTIL we change it again

Thanks and happy new year to everyone smile
