Unfortunately, LR automatically resizes all pictures and videos into the largest size that best fits your monitor's screen.
What I'd like to suggest, to ensure that LR will keep your image file's original resolution, is to edit your image and place it on top of a placeholder that has a bigger size (for example, if your image file is 400x600 px, create a blank or plain white image that's 1000x750 px and then paste your image in the middle of the white image)
This way when LR resizes your picture during playback, it will not distort the image quality too much.
