How to Install your BrillKids Software

How to Download and Install Your BrillKids Software.

To install your BrillKids software, please visit your Account Management page by clicking here and using your email and password to log-in to your BrillKids Account. 

NOTE: You will need an internet connection.

Go to the Software Tab of your Account Management Page.

•   On the page containing Step 1, choose the software you want to install on your computer.
•   A pop-up will appear, asking if you want to save or open your software.  Choose to Save the file.
•   After downloading the installer, double-click on the file to open it.  A Windows Explorer will appear, containing the installer.  Drag and drop the files onto your computer's desktop, or to any preferred destination in your computer.
•   Double click on the .exe file to start the installer.

Click on this icon to start installing your BrillKids software.

If your computer is running on Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you may be required to install a Microsoft Windows Update called Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework or higher.

During the installation process, the program will automatically detect if you already have Microsoft .NET framework installed on your computer, and if not, it will give you an installation prompt to pause your BrillKids software installation and install .NET Framework first.

After finishing your .NET Installation, you will return to the Little Reader HOME BASIC installation.  Click on Next.

On the next screen you will be shown the License Agreement. If you agree to the conditions, choose “I accept the terms in the license agreement” and click Next.

Continue with the installation by clicking Next and Install in the next screens.

Finish the installation and launch BrillKids Little Reader HOME BASIC.

need help
 i finally install the software but not sure its working becuase:
on the desktop there is a shortcut(icon)for LR when i click give me this message(LR face a problem and need to shut i have two option send a report or not)i do  not send

also in (my document) i found a folder with name LR but when open has file for data,import and export.libary which when open has alot of window media players file for sound  i open it but pictuer not there
so what is this???????
do i have ti install again how what to do ?do i have to remove old one ?by the way i didnt activate  software yet or put my licsense key iam a fraid that if i do so in this damged  install may my licsense will not work later

Not sure what you did, but please do this:

Uninstall all previous LR installations. Make sure you check on both boxes when it asks you whether you also want to delete your old library and media folders. (I am presuming you've never used LR before).

Install LR again.

Install your license key. (don't worry, you can install the key as many times as you like on the same computer).

You don't need to look around the My Documents\BrillKids\ folder, it's not necessary unless we ask you to look there. The 'file with the key' is a database file which, again, you don't need to worry about. Just start LR from the desktop icon, that's all you need to do.

If you are getting an error message when you start it, then please do this:

1. Take a screen shot showing the error message (see Forum FAQs board about how to take screenshot), and attach here or PM it to me.

2. Tell us what your computer specs are (CPU, RAM, and which Windows version)

3. Inside the Data folder that you found (same place as the 'key' database file), you should also see a file called 'error' or 'error.log'.  Attach that or PM that to me too.

 ist ok if i delayed  using my licsence key after i had install software(where i have  promblem in  opening it) untill i buy a new computer (lap top) and reinstall  again

Yes, you can wait as long as you like to install the key.

  Hi Lappy ,I am still without my home basic .I have used the  lite since .Shall I delite it first before I try to install my licence Again on my new computer. Ihave not tried as Iam afraid that I lose the lite one too. Jake had chicken pox and April for me and him was kwarantine the hole month.PlEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO , I PRINT IT AND ASK FOR HELP .

Hi MaryAnne!

We're very sorry to hear that Jake has been sick - we hope he gets well soon.

We recommend that you uninstall the software first and reinstall again - To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Go to your computer's CONTROL PANEL.
2. Go to ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS
3. Search for BrillKids Little Reader (JUST HOME BASIC) and choose to uninstall it.
4. After uninstalling, go to your My Documents folder. Then, go inside the BRILLKIDS folder.
5. Delete the folder entitled "Little Reader HOME", along with everything inside it.

If you have followed the steps above, you will have successfully uninstalled the program completely from your PC. Now the next thing you need to do is to reinstall it again. Here are the steps:

1. Download and install your software. To do this, you will need to have a stable connection to the internet, and sign in to your BrillKids Account by following this link: https://user.brillkids.com/?tab=5

You will be in Step 1: Download and Install Your Software.

2. After installing the program, you will now need to download and install your license key. Go back to your Account Management page and go to Step 2: Download and Install Your License Key.

3. The next and final step is to activate your Little Reader HOME BASIC. After you have imported the license key, the activation process will begin. Do not disconnect from the internet or change any system settings while your software is activating. You will see a processing bar while the activation connects to the BrillKids server. If the activation process is successful, your home screen will now have a gold panel with your details in it.

If you have done these steps completely and successfully, you may now begin using your Little Reader HOME BASIC!

Please let us know if you have any difficulties in following the steps above, and which step you got stalled in. Please write back to us as soon as you have tried doing these steps.  If you are still getting an error message, or if Little Reader HOME is still not opening for you, please give us some screenshots and the error log - I will tell you how to get these to us as soon as you write back.

My question is can I install LM and LR on 2 machines at the same time.  When I say 2 machines, I mean both are my own machines.  But because I am at work for most of the day, I like to review what I am going to teach the next day and then replicate it on my home machine.

Could you advise?

You can install up to 2 computers at any one time.  However, what you downloaded onto 1 will not be reflected on the other (you would have to download it again there, or export it from 1 - you can do a bulk export by selecting multiple items with Ctrl key - and import it into the other).

Now I see we have little reader on iPad, how to transfer my program from lappy to iPad?

Hi Grace,

You can't just "transfer" the program from your laptop to the iPad. We have a specific app for it called Little Reader Touch. You can download this app for free from the App Store.

Once you have Little Reader Touch, you can buy iAccess which will allow you to see your purchased curriculum in the app. Please see this post for more information:
