CREATE VIDEO

Hi everyone. Just got back from holiday and just couldn't wait to get going with version 1.03. However, I discovered that my grandbaby Eva is growing up fast (6 months now) and has developed many new skills i.e. banging on the keyboard, chewing the mouse, etc. Decided to CREATE A VIDEO to play in the TV room where there are less interesting distractions for baby. HELP I just can't get it right.  Grandma is definately not part of the computer generation.
PS: Previewing my messages also has me stumped. I keep getting an error on page.

Hi Theresa,

Actually the video function has not been released yet.

However we do have a lock function for the keyboard, which can only be interrupted by pressing the "esc" key.

You can do this from the Playback section, click on "autoforward" and then "only ESC key"
I've attached a screenshot below.

You should DEFINITELY take advantage of this new feature (having only the escape key work) - you will LOVE it.
My 10 month old had a grand old time viewing the categories once I had this feature enabled.  He could watch the words and pictures going by and have fun banging away on the keyboard at the same time (which actually lessened once he seemed to realize that it wasn't impacting the "show" he was watching).  Prior to using this feature, he was too focused on seeing what he could make the computer do, the viewing was over way too quickly, and he kept finding ways of making my computer go wonky!!
I think you will be very happy with this feature once you give it a try!  Let us know how you like it!

Another thing that I would suggest trying is investing in a set of wireless keyboard and mouse (if afforded). I just realized - as I was teaching my god daughter of 8 months - that I was quite fortunate to have a wireless desktop, and what I did while showing the presentations was I hid my keyboard (tucked it away from plain sight) and took the mouse in my hand where she didn't see it. 

It worked very much like a remote controller, flipping through the next screens, and without the distraction of having something to bang on, she became more curious about the presentations!

Let me know when you get to try it - it's was just great that I had some of these things lying around at home (like a powerpoint slide shifter - it looks like a ballpen and it wirelessly changes the slides... and they work for Little Reader! HAHA) I think it was just great that we were able to extend the functionality of the program.

 :biggrin:On another note, I was also able to connect a laptop to my TV via an S-Video Cable and an audio plug.  [This is how I used to present in meetings] The S-Video cable is cheap and they're very easy to set up too - let me know if you guys are interested in learning how this is done, and I'll be happy to share my techniques with you!

Yup Lappy I'm VERY interested to know how you do that I'm a bit of a techno-phobe at first but follow instructions well and if I do something once I'll have no problem...So I would absolutely LOVE to hear your techniques

I cannot seem to get the Auto Forward to work...Auto forward means I don't have to press anything to get the slides to advance...Right?....And then, like in your screenshot, if I also select "only Esc key" that means it is not on Auto Forward?....forgive me if I'm asking silly questions...I'm really trying to become an expert on this stuff...

Yes, checking the "Auto-Forward" box means you don't have to click or press anything for the show to play back.  However, you CAN still force it to go faster and skip slides etc if you click on the mouse/keyboard.  And the problem is that our kids sometimes like to do taht, and that would mess up the show.

Once you check the Auto Forward box, then you will also be able to check the "Only ESC Key" box.  If you check this box, it means that your keybaord and mouse is locked, and only the ESC key will work (for you to end the show).

Hope that explains things a little clearer!
