Hi sgchew99,
The Little Reader trial period starts "counting days" from when you installed the software (not from when you downloaded the installer file). For example you downloaded the installer on Monday, but installed it only on Wednesday -- day 1 of the trial will be Wednesday, and not Monday.
About the alphabet lesson, the '
a' with a hook is because of the font used for the lesson when you played it. Little Reader allows you to change the font used in your lessons, but you'll notice that most lessons in the trial will show a different font when you play it back again, like Comic Sans which uses the '
a' without the hook on top.
You will also notice that the font color and letter casing may change, and for the other lessons that have pictures and videos in them, a different image is shown when you play the same lesson at another time. Playback variety not only helps maintain your child's attention, but it also teaches words more effectively because your child will learn that a word may be shown in different ways, but it is still the same word that carries the same meaning. In your case, the different fonts used will help your child understand that '
a' is the same as '
a'
However, if you find that the font is confusing your child, you may choose to set your lesson to keep using only a specific font. To do this:
- Go to Little Reader's Advanced Play/Edit screen
- Select the Course, Playlist, or Category you want to edit (for "Alphabet," you'll find it in the Categories view)
- Toggle the "Playback Settings" tab and in the "Words" section, set Font Type to the one you ant to use
** Note: Of the default fonts included in Little Reader, Comic Sans MS is the only one that uses the '
a' without the hook. You may also choose to use another font you have in your computer by selecting "Custom Font" from the Font Type dropdown menu.
To apply this font setting to ALL of your lessons, you may use the Override function instead (make sure you turn Override ON, and then customize the override settings by clicking on the cog wheel button beside "Override")
I hope this helps!
