Vertical Spacing of Arabic Fonts with Vowels in LR

Dear Everyone,

As I am creating my first Arabic categories word files in LR, I am using the vowel markings in the word that are above and below the letters.  In LR, it is vertically squashing the vowels markings directly onto the top of the dots that are part of the letters and the word is displaying strangely.  Like the dot of a "j" being in the middle of the stem of j". 

How do I adjust this in LR.  The only other method that I am aware of is to type the words in MS-Word, enlarge 200/300 points and copy; and then open a blank .ppt and drop it in as "edit-paste special > MS-Word document object > and then enlarge the picture-box as big as I want and the fonts are crisp > then save these "picture-boxes with real fonts/not actual pictures" as a jpeg and drop it back into another blank .ppt. 

I can upload the jpeg into LR as a picture file - but then I have enter a file name and then the word - which are not displaying properly for me - and it causes redundancy and confusion in the playback, which is not working for me.  I need to only upload the jpeg of the Arabic word so that it displays properly in LR.  Also, how can I just have a jpeg with the Arabic text in a word file, without having to type in/copy a "word".

Also, how do I access the many Arabic fonts that I have on my computer - within LR because that may fix this vertical spacing issue.   Please see the attached Arabic file (and enable your Arabic fonts on your computer) to see how the words should be displaying.  When I copy from MS-Word into LR "word" text box, it smooshes the markings into the letter vertically.

Hello Ayesha & LR team,

One solution to the problem of displaying arabic vowels in LR is to have an option settings within LR menu, to be able to select any of the installed Windows on your PC.

Can you reattach the word doc, but first renaming it using english alphabets and not arabic? I can't open your doc and I suspect it's cos of the arabic file name.

Dear KL,

Please find it attached. 

If I were to type the words without the vowel markings, as seen in most printed materials with Modern Standard Arabic, it would not be a problem.

However, for beginners of Arabic, such as children and some adults, the vowels are usually shown in the beginning until the spellings and meanings of the words are memorized.  Then one is able to read and comprehend printed materials written in Modern Standard Arabic such as magazines, books, etc. that do not include the vowels because they are known.

Is there a way for me to access my library of Arabic fonts on my computer via LR - as Rima suggested?

I would suggest that if you are using pictures, then set it as following:

1. MOde - Picture only (flash)

2. Number of media displayed - 1 or 2

If you wanted to show both word and picture, then insert both the word picture as well as real picture file as pictures.  When you play back in the above manner, then it will play the first picture (which shows your word, let's say "dog" in arabic), then the second picture (eg., picture of a dog).

If you want to do it this way, you would also put in 2 picture audio files - the first one is the pronunciation, and the second one is the dog barking sound.

Right now there is no option to select font, but this feature will be available in future versions.

Thanks for the solutions - I am still figuring out all the options in LR.

What I mean is that when creating a new word, you have to name the file on the left hand side, and then on the right hand side text box, you have to enter a word that will display on the screen which is where I am having the problems. 

However, I think hte solution is the display picture only mode and use two pictures.  This actually solves another issue of how do you show Arabic word + English word + actual picture to teach two languages at once. 

When is the new release coming out for LR, please?  And do we just upgrade? or how does that work?

Hi Ayesha,

That might have to wait, as we're making a lot of changes to LR, and if we make a how-to video now it might not be relevant for very long.  We'll keep it in mind for when the new version comes out though!

Ayesha, dhivehi is similar to Arabic, meaning we write right to left and use tashkeel as well.
I have succeeded in doing the Dhivehi LR files after much struggle and only now remembered I was to tell you how to work it out.
you just type the word and the do the tashkeel
like if you are to write ِعَرَب you first type type the word and then go to the appropriate places and type in the tashkeel.
It works fine alhamdulillah, I just checked
in dhivehi its worse cos i type the whole word left to write!!
