Hi KL -
Thanks for the info and for the advice.  It's exciting that the new build is coming out that soon...I didn't realize that the turn-around would be that quick.  big grin

I do have a suggestion for a future update - As we are getting more and more categories available for download, it might be nice to have a folder system within the library.  If a person could add folders, he or she could better organize all of the categories (i.e., putting all of the alphabet category sets in a folder, animal sets, and so on).  I envision this being different from the playlists of course - just a way to navigate through all of the categories (as they seem to be increasing on an hourly basis).   Would this be possible?

If not, mayhaps there would be a way for the system to automatically re-alphabetize the sets in the category column whenever a new category is downloaded.  I wouldn't want for the ability to manually move a category up or down to be taken away, just thought it might be a nice time-saving feature to consider.  Thanks for listening to my thoughts!

nhockaday:

As for the new downloads, Nikki, you are on fire!!  Karma point to you!- the sets you've done are fabulous.  I tried your suggestion about the images and had good luck - I added lots of "stock" pics to my body parts category - but when I played it back prior to uploading it again for approval, I was really disappointed in the quality of the images.  None of them looked sharp and clear like yours do.  Any suggestions?  I think I just need to have you (or someone at Brillkids) do the body parts category (hint hint??)  Wink  Let me know if there is something you think I should try for the future.  Thanks!

lawrencelb, thank you! My only problem is the quietness of my sound files. I am now using another program, and I re recorded all of my sound files. I will re upload the categories later so that the sound files will be louder. I got tired (and I'm sure other people did too) of turning up my speakers for my categories and turning them down for brillkids.
As far as the pictures, when using google, like I suggested, you have to view the full size pic, right click then save picture as, and so on. It is important to view the full size pic (if it looks like good quality, chances are it will be, and your computer will save the full size resolution instead of thumbnail resolution). Also, the pic size is important. If the resolution is too low, the pic will not look good when enlarged (which is what little reader will do). You can see the resolution under the pics on the google search (it will say 400x600 or something). It's kind of something you have to play around with for a while to figure out! If you still have problems, I can make the category for you.

I hope this isn't too hard to understand!  confused

no, not too confusing.  It is good information - clear too. Thanks -   I will give it a try when I get a chance.  I am a bit stubborn (no, we'll call it determined)  big grin to get the category looking decent.  I had planned on doing clothing too, but I see you've beaten me to it!  smile That works for me!

I know what you mean about the sound files - I had done one - didn't like how it turned out (b/c I don't have an external mic) so I gave up and didn't add any others.

Do you feel the desire to do more?  Wink  If so, I'm thinking furniture (bed, chair, couch, table, pillow, desk, etc.)
appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, refrigerator, etc.), and
toys (coloring book, blocks, ring stacker, doll, yo-yo?, etc.) - my apologies if these 3 suggestions have already been posted or created by others!  I haven't had a chance to download all of the new additions yet!
Okay, gotta run for now.  Take care all, and thanks again, nhockaday!

Thanks Nhockaday and Leanna for all your suggestions.  big grin It would seem that the body parts category is very much in demand, which is why I'll upload a category for that straightaway.

Nhockaday is right - to get the best images for your categories, try as much as possible to grab those with very good screen resolution. (Near or above 480x640 usually does the trick.)  Wink Plus I think you may all be pleased that our release of a build with the image editor may be coming soon, and that feature will help you all customize your pictures and get them sharper for your playback.

And to make your recorded pronunciations sound clearer, I recommend trying these steps: (Before recording)
1.  In your computer, go to START MENU - CONTROL PANEL.
2.  Press SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES.
3.  Highlight the tab entitled VOICE.  In the Voice Recording area, press VOLUME.
4.  You will now see a pop up dialogue box that will enable you to check your recording settings.  Make sure your recording level is high.

There, I think that quite does the trick.  happy  I hope that helps.

Cheers everyone, and thank you!

Lappy

Some of those items are already included in my downloads. I do already have a toy category, but a second toy category is always a possibility!

Not only is this possible, it's been on our 'new features' list for a very long time now.  Unfortunately, because it requires quite a lot of programming and bug-testing, it won't be in 1.03.  Hoping to get it ready for 1.04!

Guess what - Ability to sort according to different fields is also in the 'new features' list!  However, this won't make it for 1.03 either.  Hope to have it before final release.

yea! What a great feeling to know that you all are so on top of it!  (as we knew you were  Wink) - Thanks KL and Lappy for the responses to my questions/suggestions.
I do have another thought - would there be a way (in some future build) for the Little Reader to have a one step "Download New" feature?  I am envisioning that this feature would allow the user to push one button and acquire all of the new downloads that had been added since that user had last performed a download of new categories.
Just a thought!  Looking forward to more great things!
Thanks Lappy, for taking on the body parts - my first attempt was too rudimentary and I just haven't had the time to put into it to bring it up to the quality of the other downloads.  Thanks much!

I can not really figure out a way how to keep categories organized in my library. It would really help me if I could sort the categories into folders - for example folder for flash words only, folders for teaching math (dots and numbers),  etc..... Is it possible to enable something like that? Also it would help if I could arrange categories in alphabetical order.

Definitely.  In fact, we've already been working on the Folder feature and it is due out in 1.04.  yes

Sorting feature is also on the to-do list, but is taking a lower priority now compared with other features because it won't be as needed once we have the folder feature out.

Keep those suggestions coming!

Glad to hear that the folders are going to be in the next build...that is fantastic.  (I can't wait!!)  Also glad to know that "sort" function is still on the to-do and hasn't been abandoned.  Just will be a time saver for those of us who are a bit OCD and will need our files to be in alpha order (even within the individual folders)  big grin

Thanks much!
