Font Change options in little reader

Is it possible to change the font in Little reader...If I want to develop my own flash cards in Hindi Language?

Well, there are only fixed font options right now in the Playback settings (Times New Roman, Courier, Comic Sans, Arial, etc.), but that doesn't mean that you can't type in hindi characters into the word files.

Try it! Instead of entering a word in English, just type it in in Hindi, and you will see it displayed too on playback.

Thanks for your Reply, But that won't actually make it hindi it will only sound like hindi. I noticed that in Chinese and Japanese Flash Cards they have used their own Fonts, please do something so that I can use Hindi Font That I have. we can Upload these Flash Cards on the Website, so that, Indian Parents can also be benefited from this.

Hello Garima!

To create Hindi words, simply type in your word in the upper-right-most box when you are ADDING NEW WORDS.  Type your word in Hindi, and no matter what font you use, the word will come out - as long as your computer has the appropriate language pack installed.

Please try to download and test this category that I have attached to this message.  I have created a hindi category based on some text in hindi.

I am really happy to see this thread.Hindi is my National language as i am an Indian but staying in America.So i always wanted to teach hindi to my kid.But it was difficult to teach hindi as we stay in USA.But look BrillBaby made this also easy.Thank u Brillbaby.God bless BrillBaby

Dear Lappy,
I'm Impressed to see your hindi knowledge. ..its really great to see a foreigner writing your mother tongue. However, with due respect to your efforts I would like to say the words mentioned are either wrongly written or there is some problem with the font. :tongue2: I use Susha font which I have noticed till now is the best and easiest font available for typing Hindi. This font works on Phonetic sounds, which makes it very convenient to type Hindi on English Key board without referring to the Key Guide. If you want I can send this font to you as an attachment. Trust my words as my mother is a Hindi teacher in a prestigious school in Delhi. Hope you'll understand and make necessary changes.

I was wondering if you could add the font CALIBRI to the list of fonts.  I find that it is a very clean and simple text to read, especially for kids.  I think it is also the standard text used in MS Office 2007.

Hi Cafemocha!

Calibri could be easily integrated, but unfortunately this font is only available to people who have installed Microsoft Office 2007 and later versions, so people who don't have MS Office 2007 won't be able to use it.  We will consider adding these adding them in the future though.

I am unsure if I really understand how to make the font thing to work for Hindi.  The only thing I am able to do now is open up my Adobe Photoshop program and type the text into a photo.  I was able to type the numbers, but for the words I typed in the English word.  So for example what you get is the English word "ONE," but the audio gives "ek" which is in Hindi.  I also put the the numbers in the Hindi script.  I would have done more, but I am not so quick at typing Devanagari.   This might be helpful for one who is trying to learn Hindi from English. 

It is too bad that Brill Reader could not simply be developed to use the fonts that one is using on his personal computer.  I am sure there are many Hindi speaking people who would be able to use this feature.

If someone has really figured out how to make Hindi fonts work, I would be most grateful to you for letting me know how to make it work.

First, in a later version, there will be the ability to add whatever fonts you have on your computer to LR's font list.  We're also considering an ability for users to include the fonts used into the exported Category so that other users who download and import it would also be sure to have the font. This last part might be tricky, but we're looking into it.

Second, you should just type in Hindi (or whatever language) into the "Word" field just like you would type it into any other application, say, MSN messenger.  It doesn't matter that the LR font says "Arial" or whatever.

If you're still in doubt, then type your Hindi characters somewhere else, then just copy and paste it onto the LR's 'Word' field in the Edit Word dialog box.  If Lappy can do it (and she doesn't even know Hindi! ), then anyone can!

I wish I could figure out what you all are doing.  I tried using Annapurna font and this does not work here.  I can use it in my Microsoft Word program and it recognizes this font which I have added, and it even works with my Photoshop.  But it is not recognized in the Brill Reader.  I have many of the fonts from CDAC too, but that does not work either.   

Here is what I am doing:

1.  I tried cutting and pasting the Hindi word "ek" in the Annapurna font from Microsoft Office. It gave me "HL" when I pasted this in the Brill Reader program, and that is exactly what comes up on the screen. 

2.  I tried pasting into the "Hindi Catagory (test)" which by the way does give the Devanagari script, but it just gives the same "HL".... 

...I guess I am just not computer savvy enough.
