I have only just started using Little Reader, but wondered whether all the playlists use different fonts for some of the words - I find the narrow printed font rather hard on the eyes, whereas the more bold font is much easier to read. I have not yet figured out how to change the colouring, but will try that when I find out how to and see if this improves things. I do feel however that it would be better if a single type of font was used in a particular playlist - can this be changed to do this?

Yup Tanikit, you can choose a certain font as well as a certain color to play your playlists or categories.

First you click on the playback box at the top of the application, and select your category or playlist that you would like to play. At the far right hand side, you'll find a list of settings that you can change and adjust. In the middle of those, you change the font type and underneath you can choose the color of the words and the backgrounds.

I think it is recommended that you change those every once in a while so your child doesn't memorise the color or font of a word but rather the letters and the word itself Wink

Hope this helped!

Hi, Tanikit! As Nohayo mentioned, the font and font size is very customizable, just like most other things.

You will find all the options in the PLAYBACK screen on the right-hand panel. You can customize:

- font type
- font size
- font color
- background color

And you can make the above random if you want.  I too would suggest keeping the font type random, so your child will be used to different ways of writing "a", for example.  But ultimately, you decide! Color is not so important but I find that variety makes it more interesting for the child, which is why we've made some playlists play back in red, some in black, some even in green.

If you want to save the font styling (or any playback setting) for each Category, make sure you select "Playlists" at the top of the left window (on the Playback screen) and then press SAVE PLAYBACK SETTINGS on the bottom right of that screen.

Let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi, I just chanced upon this web page today & am very excited as it offers a excellent way to customise my flashcards. I was trying to create Chinese phrases - 成语 flash cards. But at PLAYBACK SETTINGS, I couldn't find suitable chinese fonts. Any hint on this ?
Thanks.

Ah, piglet, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until we release the Chinese version of Little Reader before you will get to choose different Chinese fonts.  For now, it's just one font type for foreign language word sets.

I'm afraid there's no option to stylize the font (like bold, underline, italics, etc.) yet.

According to Glenn Doman book the font must be 0.5inch thick. I tried Little Reader Lite, the biggest font size is 250, it's still not 0.5 inch thick.

How ? Is it important to be 0.5 inch thick ?

I must be missing something...  blink

What do you mean 0.5 inch thick? Are you talking about physical flash cards, and the height (or width) of each letter? In any case, 0.5 inches is very small.

LR works on a totally different measurement system. 250 is the font's 'point' size.  How big it is totally depends on your monitor size and the screen resolution.  On my 17" laptop monitor (1440 x 900 resolution), the word "dog" is about 1.5 inches tall.

I"m refering to 0.5 inch width of letter not height.

Dear Rainmatrix & All,

I used to also take the guidelines in How to Teach Your Baby to Read by Mr. Glenn Doman literally.  And to be clear - the guidelines suggested, are not a "must".  I say this because I have called the staff at the Institutes of Achievement for Human Potential several times and they have reiterated that the book was written as a general guidelines for many parents around the world.  It is not an exact science.

I have the Reading Kit from IAHP ( http://www.gentlerevolution.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=G&Category_Code=A ) and the word size is less than what is listed in the guidelines of the book.  If you read the description it states, "The words in this kit are 2.25 inches and are best for an 18 month old. For younger children, make your own cards 3 inches tall."

For example, the single word cards for Step 1 are  4" x 6".  And short letters of the alphabet are actually 1 5/8" tall and 3/8" thick for the leg of the letter "n", and the letter "d" is 2 1/8" tall.

As Mrs. Connie and Mrs. Gwenn cannot emphasize enough - it does not have to be perfect to the exact measurement in the book - it is only a guideline!

As I am constantly reminding myself, "focus on progress, instead of perfection."  That is the beauty of Little Reader, make the font as large as possible - or connect your computer/laptop to your TV and make it HUGE if you like - just get started to take advantage of the short window of opportunity for increasing your child's intelligience.

Think about it - how many other children of parents here are still reading even though the guidelines are varied?  The answer is "many!"  And your child will be among them even though the size is different than what is suggested.

- Ayesha smile

Thanks ayesha for the point that many ppl prob didn't follow to the exact width but still got some results.

OK I just make it the biggest font possible but if LR could provide more bigger font size in future it would be good.
