Hi all, our second week into our trial with LR deluxe, my DD is starting to look away from the screen towards the end of the lesson. I'm now clicking quickly through the multi-sensory part to keep her engaged- is this ok? Before I would repeat the words whilst acting/signing the words for a more multi-sensory approach, but I think this made the sessions too long? How do you all teach this segment? huh

Hello there

How old is your little one?  I think their age, time of day and number of distractions around affects their level of concentration.
My little girl is almost 5 months old and we have completed 25 lessons over the last month and a half.  In the beginning, I would also whiz through the multi-sensory part because she got distracted.  The word and picture flash seemed to work best.  With regards to the initial curriculum, she didn't seem too interested in the colours.  She preferred animals, body parts etc.

Now, the last 3 weeks or so, she is MUCH better with the multi-sensory part.  I can show her her body parts, make sounds etc and she concentrates and participates nicely.  The only thing now that she is becoming busier, she is very eager to press the keyboard and mouse.  I use my laptop so can't really choose one to lock because she can touch both. 

I think older kids enjoy the multi-sensory part more because it is more interactive.

Thanks Scruff. My little one is 8 months so very busy too! I tried clearing the desk but she'd either try and go for the keys or looking out of the window. I'm thinking of moving the lessons from our laptop on the desk to sitting in front of the 40" TV, with her on my lap.

I always try and give the lessons in the first half of the day when she is more alert, first thing in the morning before breakfast (but after her milk), and then after her mid-morning nap. I think concentration wanes after solid meals and later in the afternoon. But starting LM this week so hoping I can keep her engaged long enough for that too. She is obsessed with her Dad so need to get his face in icons!

Fantastic that you've started so early- I have been umming and ahhing about LR since DD was 4 months- but now I wish had started earlier so we could've gotten some lessons in before this perpetual busyness!

I think clicking through fast is okay too.  I finally adjusted the "Override" settings by clicking the little gear icons (to the left of the play button).  I turned off the pronunciation and I just say the words myself and click through the slides at our own pace when needed.  Now my son loves all of LR and we usually don't do it this way.  But when I need to I turn the override on again.

Aaah thank you mybabyian... that sounds like a better option.  I was worried that me speaking as well as the software would be a bit of overload. Will definitely try that tomorrow.

You can also turn on the "auto forward" option in the override settings to make the multisensory part play much more quickly. Try is a few different ways to see what your little one prefers. smile

Hi ... thanks that Tombliboo started this topic earlier.
This week I noticed the restlessness with my DD and believe me we are in our 14th day .. We haven't even crossed the half range yet !!!!

She is ok with the picture part plus words ..
but multi sensory she doesn't want me doing any thing with her ..

If i just fast forward it with the audio she is fine .. but not interested in doing any thing like "stand" "sit" .. touching her "nose" "hair"
NOTHING DOING !!!!!!

Am wondering now is the purpose of MULTISENSORY is working with her if I just fast forward it with the audio and i do nothing !!!!

Is there any other way to make the multi sensory part interesting !!!

With Maths :
She was very much interested earlier .. Now she is bored with dots and not patient enough to finish one session !!!
She just squirms a looootttttttt!!!!

If she just wants to watch and not interact, that's okay! Just demonstrate for her either in the lesson or at some other time, even if you are just touching your own hair, pointing to your own eyes, etc. For LM, you can just do one of the lessons without going through the whole session. Just break up the sessions throughout the day, follow her lead as to how many to show.

You can speed up the lessons on the override settings to keep your child more engaged as well, some kids just like the lessons really fast to keep their attention.

Also, depending on age, having an established routine to show LR/LM at snack time or specific meal times either at the table or high chair may be a good option that creates a very positive association. Other parents show it during milk or nursing time, but overall creating a routine is vital. smile

When my son was little (he's still little today LOL ) , he liked it better when I set the lessons to play auto-forward.
He did not like it when I clicked, and clicked.. tongue

Now, he's 3.3 years old and loves the Multisensory lessons where we both interact.  Plus, he likes to see the picturs and vdos on the lessons.
