I was wondering, how frequent we should show kids the flashcards, and I found this on brillbaby:

"We recommend a playback of three times a day for each category lesson, with time intervals of about half an hour between each lesson.  There will be times when your child’s interest will vary during different days, and children react differently to different parts of the lesson.  It is important for you to monitor your child’s reactions and adjust accordingly.  DO NOT BORE YOUR CHILD – it is vital for you to make learning a fun and happy experience!"

I understand the second part, but the first confuses me...3 times a day for each category? as in 3 times letters category, 3 times vegetables, etc... each day? That's a very busy schedule, is that hpw it is supposed to be?

Or focus on 1 category each day and rotate?

I know it is according to the baby, but I just wanted to understand the guidline / recommendation, and see how others are doing this smile

Thanks for pointing that out. I think we need to revise that part and word it more clearly!

Basically, there are no hard and fast rules to this.  The key is to take your cue from your child, and to try to keep it fun and engaging.  Glenn Doman, for example, recommends that you should stop just before they lose interest, though in practice I personally find it difficult to do.

You can start with having these 'lessons' 2-3 times a day, each time being a short session which probably would not last much more than 5 minutes each time.

If you are not feeling in the mood, or you sense your child is not in the mood, then better to NOT have that 'lesson.'  Remember, there are no hard and fast rules to this, except that you should keep it fun!

(BTW, I put 'lesson' in inverted commas because to the child it's not a 'lesson,' it's a fun activity, especially when the child is not very mobile and doesn't have much else to do.)

I think we can show 5 categories slide show daily.at different intervals.and we can repeat the same for say 5 days.But we cannot retire any of these slide show.Actually it takes hardly like few minutes to complete one slide show.But first we can start with the  slide show which is familiar to them.Inorder to hold there interest.And accordingly we can start on.

There are good days and bad days in life.

My girls go through their cards, 5 categories of English word cards, 5 categories of Chinese word cards and 12 Equations a day, according to Doman's method.

My older girl requested me to stop and she said, "mummy, i don't want to look at flashcards. I want to read books!" So, we have put away flashcards for her for about 6 months now. That's how I started showing her Doman's Bits of Intelligence CD-ROMs, Dr. Robert Titzer's DVDs and TweedleWink DVDs. She was quite reluctant at the beginning but she doesn't mind and in fact enjoy watching them now. Sometimes when she gets up in the morning or from her nap, she'll tell me, "mummy, I want to watch Aleka." or "mummy, please show Marissa TweedleWink." or "mummy, where's your Bits CDs?"

My younger girl was not interested for a while when I was showing her and separate showing all the cards above into 3 times a day. I stopped. I tried again in a few days and she wasn't interested again. We decided to take a break and stop for 2 months. When I re-introduced flashcards into her life one morning after she woke up, I was amazed to see her reactions towards the cards as her facial expressions were trying to tell me she misses her flashcards sessions! She was wiggling her little toes and clapping her chubby hands and smiling as wide as she can! I then showed her quickly all the cards and repeated 3 times all in one go! From then onwards, I know that her preferred time of learning flashcards is when she just woke up in the morning. I keep the rest of the day free of flashcards but with other stimulations. She watches those DVDs with her sister and play the rest of the day!

So, be flexible and try different ways to find out which one(s) is/are most suitable for your child (children). They will indicate to you of their preference(s). There's no point forcing and get stressed up which I used to before!
