How to check progress?

Hi there, I wondered if there is a way to check my son's progress?  We have been doing the Little Reader for three weeks properly and he has done over 50 words and yet shows no sign of knowing them in a book or anything.  It was mentioned not to go back on words already done and to keep it fresh and fun.  I just need to know that all the time is going to be worth it - I'm not expecting miricles, just a glimmer that it's going to help.  Any thoughts?...

I started teaching my son with this Little Reader just for a couple of days, and he's very interested. He's 1 yr and 2 mos. and he can speak few words before introducing this, hopefully his learning will increase with the use of this tool. You just continue teaching your child, he'll know more later on.

You need to review words already played every once in a while, just not every day.

Also wondering how old your child is... my daughter is now 13 months old and has been using Little Reader consistently for about the past month. She has also not showed that she can read words, but to be honest she has only in the past week shown that she recognises the pictures - she roars when she sees a tiger and makes other animal noises for various animals she sees. I am now waiting for her to do the same when she sees the word before the picture - wonder how long that will take (will try update this when I see her progress)

The other thing you need to do to try to get your child to respond is make a category for words you know your child can say or in some way indicate she/he knows what they are - ie words your child can sign or animals he/she knows the noises for. Then show this category for a while and you will be more likely to get a response without testing her/him.

Hi, my girl is able to imitate the actions from the Action Words after a few tries. She's 2 though, started slightly late.

Maybe you should try showing the cards that the child seems more interested with.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.  My son is 3 and a half.  I must just say that dispite no acknowledgement of the words he has seen he does love Little Reader very much!!      My husband is quite sceptical about the whole thing and I have just been very aware of wanting to show him it is doing a lot of good.   Another reason I asked is that the musical instrument names really caught his attention and when it came to the drum or piano he wanted to see it over and over until all the pictures of the instrument were shown.  So in a day he saw "drum, piano, violin etc."  10 times in a day for the five days and yet showed no recognition of the words written on paper or his black board after this. One thing I did notice though this weekend is that he has learnt a few nursery rhymes by heart from listening and seeing Little Reader.  So he is memorising what he hears - who knows what's going on in his little head...  I am sure with time he will do just fine.  I will keep in mind the suggestions of showing him the things that interest him most and also to show him some of the words at other times - I thought about making short sentences like - I have a drum or Mark plays the drum.  Will see how it goes.
