I have to wait too long to play another category after the previous one ends

I have this problem with Little Reader and I do not know if it is a problem of my computer (I would say the computer is pretty fast and good, but my LR library is HUGE) or a problem of Little Reader in general. After playing one category I have to wait many seconds before I can click on another to play. It bothers me and my daughter as well. I know I can create a playlist but I would love to be able to use LR quickly even without creating the playlists. KL, can you help? Thank you. Martina

I have the same problem. I think it is just because my library is so big. If I don't wait for like 20 seconds after a file is done, and I try to click on anything in LR, the program freezes and says not responding. It is rather annoying.

Yes Niki, it does the same to me and that is why I decided to start recording the categories and play them on DVD player to avoid this because my daughter gets impatient (and to be honest me too)!  I would rather use LR effectivelly.

Hi Gloria, as I mentioned in another thread I use program SNAGIT that let you capture anything played on your computer screen (for example categories of Little Reader) and then burn it and play on DVD player for my daughter. We have a camcorder but it is so easier to use the program instead, I just select that I want to record, I select the area of the screen to record (fullscreen), push start, play Little Reader categories, push stop and then Save it. The sound needs to be captured through microphone but it is still very easy. You should try it. You can download free SNAGIT trial version here.  http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp  I hope it will work with the trial version (I have the full one). Before I burn it I use video converter to make it DIVX to play it on DVD. You can edit video if you want in any of video editing programs - there are plenty of them that you can download and use. Good luck.

My LR is slow too. I think it gets slower the more I add to LR.

Can you tell me what is the size of your Little reader.mdb file?

You will find it in My Documents/BrillKids/Little Reader HOME/Data/ , and it's a Microsoft Office Access Database file.

Dear KL,

Mine is 1.61MB.  I think my computer is just slow because I had these issues prior to downloading LR.  Any suggestions would be great.  We performed a complete defrag + something else you have to before that? + c cleaner.  I have to restart my laptop at least once per day because it is too slow, and when I turn on the laptop - the "windows" start-up sound is broken up, like a studdering sound or something.  Like right now - I was checking the memory and it practically froze and I had to wait for ~5 minutes (literally) before I could come back to continue this message.  Ughhh!

Patreiche, can you check your size figure. I think i'ts probably 7.2 Mb, not kB? or maybe 720 kB?

Looking at Martina's and Nikki's mdb sizes, it seems as if the size is causing a slow down.
