If there's one thing you could change about Little Reader to make it better, what would that be?
eg., changing how a certain thing works, or adding an extra feature, etc. etc.

OK, you don't have to restrict yourself to just one! smile

I think it would be nice if you could change the speed of the moving gifs.

More foreign languages would be really nice. I've been having a hard time recording my own voice, as it doesn't come out as clear as it should.
My toddler also loves to press on the mouse button and makes the frames go too fast too even enjoy them... it would be great if there was an option to turn off the mouse click and just have the frames change automatically every 5 seconds or so.   happy

Thanks for the suggestions!

This one is easily do-able, except what is the best speed might be quite subjective.  Which of the animations did you think the speed should be adjusted, and how?

Although we do aim to bring out more foreign language sets, there ARE quite a few languages in the world Wink, so many people will be surely waiting for a long time, depending on which language they're after.  We're hoping that you users can help expand the library, especially the foreign language ones.  As for recording your own voice, a tip would be to make sure you don't speak directly into the microphone to avoid 'pops' like when you say "p" words.  aim the mic pointing up, and speak OVER the mic so that your breath goes above and over the mic.  If you have an audio editor, then use the 'Normalize' function to adjust the volume of the recording (usually it will make it louder).
Just a quick search for "free wav editor" showed up this program:
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/
I haven't used it myself but it looks like it's worth trying.

That's a great idea! 1 Karma point to you! smile
In case you didn't know, you CAN auto-change the frames by checking the Auto-Forward checkbox in the Playback screen, and you control the speed with the "Speed" slider.  Unfortunately, right now, pressing the space bar or mouse would still advance the frames forward.
I think what we can do is to add a "Disable mouse + keyboard" checkbox next to the Auto-Forward checkbox.  The only key that would work would be the Esc button to stop play back.

Would that work for you? smile

KL -
The "disable mouse + keyboard" function would be fantastic.  I had posted elsewhere (can't remember now where - download thoughts, maybe?) that my son was too infatuated with the mouse and the keyboard to fully attend to the visual presentation - I was thinking I would have to transfer the word lists and use them on the TV but it would be so much easier to stay at the computer and pull up whatever set we wanted to do.

I am going to try the auto-forward feature when my little guy wakes up from his nap.  I think he may be less likely to "explore"  happy the keyboard and/or mouse and just attend to the screen if he doesn't see mommy "pushing buttons" - thanks for calling our attention to this feature!

The gifs such as walk etc.  Slower moving objects might be easier for babys to focus in on.

I would like to be able to customize the playback of each set. For example, I like to randomize most of the sets, but sets of numbers I would like to be in order. The way it is now, if I change one feature of playback, it applies to all of them. follow me?

Thanks for the clarification, Catherine.  It would be difficult to incorporate a feature in LR to allow you to adjust the speed of the animation (particularly since the animation is not a GIF, actually, but a flash file.  We've tried to make the animation as realistic (in terms of motion) as possible, so that it's as clear as possible what the animation depicts.

Let me introduce you to the world of Playlists... smile

Playlists will do exactly that, and the ability to save playback settings to each individual word set is one of the key reasons for the existence of the Playlist!  Please see this post for more details:
http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader/upload-file/

Try creating Playlists and start enjoying its power!

Pheww... long weekend with the kids, so many postings!!! Yes, that would be really great KL! Thanks!  yes
Since we are talking about the mouse button, I was wondering if there is a way to make the mouse cursor bigger, so that if my toddler uses the mouse, he can actually see clearly what he's doing... also, it would be neat if there was some kind of sound (nothing too distractive!) when he clicks the mouse, just so he knows it has an effect on the screen (hand eye coordination).
Uhmm... perhaps if the cursor changed it's shape or color when clicking, maybe that would do as well.
What do you all think?  huh

Hi I just downloaded the program today. And I am in love and so is my 16 month old Winston.  I love that the font is in red, it allows him to really focus on the word. However, is there anyway that I can alter the size of the font. I would like to make it a bit larger.

Glad to hear you are both enjoying Little Reader!  Cool

Yes, you can definitely alter the size of the font.  In fact, you can alter MANY things on Little Reader!
Simply go to the PLAYBACK screen, and you can find all the options there on the right-hand panel.  For example, you will see "Font Size". Just click on the drop down menu arrow and you will see all the font sizes to choose from.

And if you change your mind about the red color, you can also change it by clicking on the red box next to the word "Word", and choose your own color!

Hi Forsythia, yes, you can absolutely make the mouse cursor bigger.  In the PLAYBACK screen, look for the button near the bottom that says "POINTER SETTINGS", and you can adjust the size there.  As for your other suggestions, we may look into doing that later on once we've fixed all the bugs and put out all the upcoming new features.

Thanks for the suggestion!
