IMPORTANT: Notice for Little Reader 118 Users (Read before Upgrading!)

The question is whether you wish to keep your old library.

Like we said in the first post, if you don't have that much to keep, best to just export the files you want to keep and import them back later.  This is so you can completely uninstall the old versions (including the libraries), and install v1.5 fresh.

But if you don't want to, then no, you don't even have to uninstall the old version. Just install the new version, and it will replace the old version, and incorporate your old library too.

i am not sure if you remember me.
i had the problem with internet connection speed and said that i would like to have LR and LM on disk.

well just wanted to let you know that i changed my internet provider and i managed to download the LR and curriculum.

i love it!

it promotes UNDERSTANDING  as well as reading. it was nerve wracking uninstalling my old LR as i didnt know if it could be downloaded. will do the maths tomorrow.

now i know what you guys were up to all this time!

I'm getting an application error since downloading the new version.  It keeps freezing my computer even when I'm not using Little Reader.  I've tried to repair it thru the Uninstall BrillKids Little Reader menu.  It didn't work - got a message that it can't be repaired because Little Reader.exe is in use.  Anyone have suggestions for me?  The odd part is that Little Reader is quirky but it is working.  I even used day 1 of the 6 months course.  It's great.  Anyway, later I might uninstall it and start over again with a fresh install.

Make sure your Little Reader is totally close. Try this, press Ctrl+Alt+DEL, it will take you to START TASK MANAGER. In there, if you cannot find Little Reader running in APPLICATIONS, click the PROCESSES then select the Little Reader.exe*32 then hit End process.

Okay.  I did it, Sheeberi.  The repair function ran smoothly.  Then I restarted my computer and so far so good.

KL,

getting tired to do this ..whoaa... now is 3.15 am in the morning @ M'sia ..
i've tried ALL the solution @ the link as u suggested ..but STILL FAILED (with same error)

3 suggestion as solution by InstallShield:

1. end all the running installation procesess - no running installation during the process, only one msiexec.exe but i end the process already using Task Manager as suggested. i can see that after i end the process, the file is not there anymore. even after i restart  my laptop, no more related installation file @ Task Manager > Processes.

but everytime i try to run the software ...it will stuck with the same error, then @ task Manager there will be the same file msiexec.exe. i do it few times until i feelt tired & give up..hu hu..

2. delete the Temp folder - i delete all the files in the Temp folder also .. only one file cant delete - Perflib_Perfdata_284. Error msg :It is being use by another person @ program .


3. Install Windows Installer Engine - i dont have to do this since i'm using Windows XP.

What i have to do now KL & Lappy ... ??

Good that you backed it up.

Here's what you do - copy (not move) your backup under your My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader HOME\ folder, so that under that, you have the Data and Media Library folders too.

Next just install the new LR 1.5 and it should detect your old library and port it to the new version.

Please note that by doing so, you won't see any of the new content immediately.  However, after you run 1.5 for the first time, it should prompt you to install the Starter Pack.  AFter you do that, install the rest of the content files from your ACcount Management.

Hi KL great work, me only have time towards thursday and friday to do the stuff .... weekends phew .... you know KU and outings and family stuff before catching up with markets .... anyway just installed the LR 1.5 looks cool .... i didn't remove previous version just install over it, old data was ported .... nicely done, hmm didn't have to download and install licence key, .... however there is one part i am abit confused .....

After opening the LR it asked to download English (US) semester 1, i think, and it was quite fast (a few minutes or less)... i am not sure if it has downloaded the whole thing, or it search thru my computer for the file (since i have downloaded a english course semester 1 all 4 parts 136mb but stored in a dfferent drive), if that is correct, then i am currently seeing 130 lessons in all correct??

Sorry it happens so fast (i'm amazed, impressive) i am not even sure if i did it correctly, or that the 136mb file i downloaded is a different thing altogether .....

update oh dear ... day 10 onwards np picture and video .... hmm i guess i am supposed to download part by part instead of the all in one right....?? so after that i just import them to overwrite the old files..... correct??

We discovered a possible problem where sometimes the 136mb file may not get imported properly, and you may get media-missing messages.  If so, download each pack separately.  This problem will be fixed in the next build.

Hi KL yup just went for a test run and found the problem .... so i guess i need to download again .... and i just import it ?? it would automatically overwrite and update everything??

LR is currently importing the new cirriculum. Can't wait to see it!

I have two questions though:

1. When I installed and LR launched, it already had my gold bar with my name on the license...do i still need to download the license again through my account management page?

2.

Step 3: GET YOUR CURRICULUM CONTENT.

This is the step where you download all the media files you will need to play your curriculum. You can choose to download your BrillKids curriculum content in parts, so you won't have to be connected to the internet for too long; if your internet connection is stable, you may also choose to download all the content at once.

Just click on the download buttons here to download the content.  These files will pretty much behave int eh same way as downloading a category file from the Little Reader library, and will ask you to save or open the file. Either way, it will import itself automatically to your Little Reader once you have finished downloading them.

Note: It's usually best to try downloading them one at a time.
   

So after the courses are downloaded I still need to download the media files? Where do I download those from?

Hi Nohayo!

You must probably be installing the first pack of the curriculum content - that only goes as far as 2 weeks (10 days.) Once you go beyond the first few lessons, you will be told by your Little Reader that you need to get the content for it because you don't have the appropriate files.

You can get your files by going through Step 3: GET YOUR CURRICULUM CONTENT. These steps (steps 1-3) can be found by signing in to your Account Management page and going to the System Software Tab. Please use the link in my original post to get there, or you can hover over FORUM COMMUNITY (first item in the top navigation bar) and click on Update Account. It will take you to your Account Management pages.

I've installed the new LR. I love it! I think it's a great idea to have a curriculum. My daughter love the new LR, too. She loves the multimedia part, and she wants to look at it again and again.

After followed this procedure to upgrade my BrillKids, the new BrillKids crashed many times on my system.

It is almost unusable, the old version was quite stable.

What is the procedure to downgrade back to the previous version?

Can you install the latest version, which should be v1.5.207.  Also, if you are using XP, can you download and install this codec pack:
http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/ffdshow-codec-pack.exe

When installing, there will be a page called "Select Additional Tasks", and you will see "Decode the following video formats with ffdshow". Make sure it is selected.

If you are still encountering problems after doing both of the above, please do this:

1. Tell us if you see any error messages when it crashes.  Take a screenshot if possible. See here on how to:

2. Create System Report - Under Help menu (not HELP button), select Tech Support, then click on Create System Report.  It will generate a file called something like "SystemReport-(date).zip" in your My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Data folder.  Attach that here.

3. Create Diagnostic Report - Windows Start menu, BrillKids, Little Reader, find "Diagnostic" item.  It will also generate a report called "Little_Reader_2009_7_2...zip" in your My Documents\BrillKids\Tools folder.  Attach that here too.
