The backup copy is just in case something goes wrong with the upgrade.  If you've upgraded successfully (and you're sure nothing is missing), then you can delete the backup copy.

i have a problem with little reader. my computer was down and i had to install LR for the second time. when i went to download the files i had to pay for files i had before. the 3D brillkids shapes i did pay 200 points for it. i now realised it is not in the library anymore for me to download. i think if there is a history that shows you have these files before there was a price, you should get them free. computers can crash anytime or is there a way to save the files just in case the computer is down or something.

There IS a history of your downloads!

Go to your a/c management, Software + License Keys, Previously Downloaded tab and you should find it there. It should not charge you again.

Step 3: GET YOUR CURRICULUM CONTENT.

This is the step where you download all the media files you will need to play your curriculum. You can choose to download your BrillKids curriculum content in parts, so you won't have to be connected to the internet for too long; if your internet connection is stable, you may also choose to download all the content at once.

Can you advise on how to download the content either at once (ideal) or in pieces?  I seem to be missing where to go to download the files.

I tried downloading a previously downloaded file from my a/c managment.... and it did want to charge me for the file.  Seems like that's not the intent, so something you might have your team investigate.

Of course you can choose not to upgrade to the new version.

But mind you, you'll be missing out on all the great new features if you don't upgrade (you won't have the courses nor the curriculum, nor the great new content we've come up with!)
