I been showing my baby  little reader everysince he was 8 months . he havent show me any sign of reading. I have play word games with him to chose between two words but he get the wrong one. I think i am doing something wrong.
I usually do english, spanish and chinese twice ( using little reader and using wink to learn for chinese). Last month   i was even show him ybcr dvd1 twice a day ,but  he get bored easily and will not want to watch it any more so I will stop showing him the dvd for weeks and start again but this time only once a day.

eventhough he havent learn to read ,he have learn his body parts, and animals names .
should  I stop everything and try to do glenn doman methods
please help.I really want my baby to learn to read early because i seen how my others kids have struggle with reading.

Just keep having fun with Little Reader.  Maybe your LO is absorbing more than he is willing to show.  He might be too busy with the task of absorbing new info and not ready to show off yet.  I started much later than you did.  You are bonding and he is learning body parts, animals, etc.  If you want I think it is fine to add and combine programs, so you could add some Doman methods too.  Just focus on learning and having fun together, not on testing.  I think early learning is a great way to bond with the kids.  So it is a win situation no matter what the outcome.  However I really think he will become an early reader.  I've noticed that many of the successful were taught using a variety of methods, so go ahead with Doman too.  Also I know at some points I felt like I was doing it wrong too.  It is hard not to compare and worry.  But your LO is very lucky to have a mom dedicated to early learning, and it will pay off off in the long run.

Good Luck, Lori

I think that you are doing fine, and you don't need to worry.  I have been doing it for 4 months, and mine is 12 months old.  I haven't seen anything change other than my son's interest in words has intensified.  He actually enjoys it and goes to the computer as if asking for LR.   He isn't very verbal and while I try to teach him to sign (even my older ones), he doesn't seem interested in signing.  He just says "ma" when I sign more to him.

Here is why I am not worried, because I started later with my other two and they are soaking up all the EL material I can give them.  I find that testing ages under four is a waste of time.  Its just spotty.  I swear sometimes they just give the wrong answer just for the fun of it.  They aren't very logical sometimes.  Its as if they are testing you for different reactions, and all reactions generally seem to please them.  hahaha.   My three year old is very theatrical and imaginative, and prefers to give silly crazy answers to entertain herself.  She finds pleasure in annoying me so now I don't even bother testing her in anyway.  I just make it fun, give her the facts and let her run with it.  Its only when I am ease dropping on her independent play time that I find her using EL in her imaginative playtime.

If I do anything differently, it will be introducing phonics more seriously at age 2 years old or sooner.  I like reading bear and starfall.  I am working my oldest two kids (3 and 4) through these two sites to give them stronger reading skills (I wasn't very consistent with the Doman method and didn't have LR at the time it was appropriate for the older two kids).  I will feel much better about their reading once we complete these programs.  I just remind myself excellent kindergarten reading skills even at four years old is better than nothing.  And well, I know I love reading and probably started reading at the average age of most American children.

I think its developing the love for learning that is most important at this age.  Of course its naturally there.  We just have to continue to foster it and remember not to stifle it.

Have fun bonding with her and just let her show you what she knows when she wants.   I doubt you are doing anything wrong.   You know your baby better than anyone else.  As a wonderful EL mom, just don't get discouraged.  Children reveal themselves differently and at different times.  You will find there is always something fun and interesting to add to your EL time.  It can be even overwhelming.  You have to know your baby and what interests them. You can't do everything, so be picky.  Just go with your gut and have fun bonding.

Fourteen months is still young. Don't worry - keep going. LR is using the Doman Method. I would add Reading Bear in there too just because it is a different way of doing it. Try not to test and read this thread. http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-to-read/my-22-m-old-can-swim-freestyle-but-can't-read/

My son has gone through spurts for months at a time where he refused to read or show me anything. Words I knew he knew somehow just escaped him. When he was ready he let me know. Keep it fun and low key and stop before he wants to stop.

I was feeling the same way, but I blamed myself for not showing our little man LR twice daily. I finally realized he did not like the Doman format. He prefers the slower paced repitition, songs and story format of Baby Signing Time, Little Pim and Preschool Prep. Once I accepted that our little guy had a different learning style, I found ways to teach him. We do his lessons with the books/flash cards from his learning DVDs in his hands. I stop the DVD, we walk and dance around to find things in the house that relate to the topic. He knows about 60 words, his colors (working on shades like pink and lavender), shapes, and alphabet. Right now I am working on (not sucessful yet) having him read the sight words he knows from the sight word readers. We will be moving onto blends and phonics soon. We still use LR and YBCR but not as often. I didn't realize this until DS was almost 2 and talking, I don't know if this would have worked for him at 14 months. What I mean is for you to not be discouraged (like I was) and try to change things up. I think positive parent interaction for early learner is very significant in their development. Lots of love, fun, and encouragement during your EL lessons is important.
EL is never to late,
Tracy

Don't get discouraged!  For a long time I was feeling just like you.  All of a sudden my son seems to be piecing things together.  I just wrote an update on our progress here:
http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-to-read/an-update-on-our-progress/new/#new

I would keep going with LR and if you haven't already, start teaching letter sounds.  Then as sonya_post suggested add in some readingbear presentations if your little one likes it.  I think it is okay and even a good idea to try both methods.  They can complement each other. Good luck and let us know how things go!

A big Thank you to all of you. many times i feel discouraged an alone in my journey. And I guess many time  i get impatient.
Maybe one of the reason that Glenn doman said no testing is probably not just for the kids but also the parents . since we might get discouraged and quit to early.
I am going to keep it up , he loves his lessons and  i Love teaching him.  YOU guys are amazing thank you  .
