LR Curriculum Semester 1 for Child who knows YBCR and basic words?

I just purchased Little Reader yesterday and now I'm wondering, is some of the semester 1 content going to be too easy since she knows most of the basic animal, parts of the body, etc words from YBCR and from us using flashcards from the site already? 

Is there anyway I can change out individual words, for example, change out the word dog for a different animal that she might not know and it still be in the rotation? Or do I have to just show my own playlists (or ones downloaded from the site) on my own after the curriculum lessons?

If I can create them ony my own, do I have to show them or can they be added to the rotation of words everyday? I hope that makes sense. I just got the program yesterday and I'm trying to learn and prepare as much as I can to add this to our "workload" next week.  Thanks.

Hi, teachermom!

I would suggest skipping words which you know he already knows and would be bored with. This might mean you might run through lessons faster and even skip Categories or days.  Alternatively, you could change the casing to all upper case for variety. Doing this will be much easier when we release v1.6 which will have a playback settings 'override' button so you don't have to adjust it for each and every lesson.

Right now, unfortunately, you can't change the existing curriculum, so you would have to use playlists and your own categories to show customized content. Unfortunately, that doesn't give you auto-rotation at the moment. Future versions will though.

Your child may know some of the words, but she might enjoy seeing the different pictures and videos for them. For example, she might know the word cat and dog, but it might be fun to see different colors and types of cats and dogs and see videos of them in action. My son knows a lot of the words, but I still show them to reinforce and refresh his memory. He knew almost all of the words from YBCR when we quit using it, and now he has forgotten a bunch of them, so it's good to refresh their memory. If she really seems to be bored or not enjoy the lesson, then you can try some of the suggestions KL had.

I second nhockaday.  My son "knew" most of the YBCR words but when he saw the LR categories that he knew they provided a bit of a familiarity that he appreciated.  I could see him get somewhat excited - like meeting an old friend.  And as she said, they are good for refreshing.

As you get into the lessons you'll find that there are many, many words that are not covered in YBCR.  I don't know if you are, but don't doubt your purchase.  You'll love LR!

Also, you might even want to turn off the volume every once in a while and encourage your daughter to read the word aloud.  My son has learned to whisper so he whispers the word back...practically the only time in the day he understands the phrase "quiet voice"!

Thanks for the input and suggestions.  I don't doubt my purchase at all!  Only not getting the lifetime! I just wish I had time to learn the system overnight!  Especially since having my second child. This will save me lots of time from trying to do so much work making my own.

I will take the advice and just go through the curriculum  as she may have forgetten and if not, she always enjoys flash cards.  We will be doing another language with her alongside this and I may make a few of my own for whatever theme we're working on for the week so that is easier.  I'm sure she will enjoy the words and, really, it's easier on me to just press "play", .

Hi, I have done YBCR with my 9 month old since she was 2.5 months old. I just got Little Reader. I am on day 3 right now with LR (LOVE IT!) and she knows the YBCR words but she doesn't seem the least bit bored with LR. The other girls are right about it being familiar and seeing different pictures, especially of the animals. She's already showing signs of knowing words in 3 days where she wasn't with YBCR. If I were you (and I'm in the same situation,) I would leave it just like it is unless your child seems bored. Good luck!

YA THEY ENJOY THE LESSONS THEY KNOWS. I TOO DO THAT TO REFRESH THE MEMORY.

I SOMETIME TURN OFF THE VOLUME FOR THOSE LESSONS THAT E KNOW SO THAT SHE COULD READ THE WORDS BY HER SELF.
