My question is, is it possible to have LR on both or can I only have it on one computer?
Yes, you can have it on both.
My other question is, what if for any reason, the computer with LR on it packs up and we get another, can we download it onto the new computer or we'll have to buy LR all over again. Thanks for your help.
You can transfer your license to your new computer, but you would have to contact us first to 'free up a slot' by canceling the old computer's slot.
I just had that question last night when I bought mine, and they do give you a product license key for up to 2 computers. I downloaded it on both my desktop, where most of my pictures are saved, and my laptop, so that I can move around with my computer. The only problem is that what I save on the one computer doesn't show up on the other, of course. So my personalized lists are only on one computer. Anyone know a way around this?
The only way you could have your content on both computers are the following 2 ways:
1. Do a mass export of all the categories/playlists you want to transfer as ONE file (do this by selecting multiple items using the Ctrl and/or Shift keys), then transfer that file to your other computer (using a flash drive, for example), and importing it back.
2. Copy the entire Little Reader.mdb (ms access database file) and the Media Library folder to your other computer in exactly the same place in the first computer. However, that must mean that your computer 'name' must be the same on both computers, because this name appears in front of the "My Documents" directory.
If that is the case, then you could even go an automated way by linking up both computers via LAN cables or wireless, and sync'ing both copies with Backup/Sync softwares.
