Just noticed that we forgot to mention the changes we did to the Playlist functionality in the new LR 1.5 version.
PLAYBACK ORDER
As many of you will know, you can use playlists to create very flexible and varied lists. These could be cherry-picking words from different categories, stringing together a series of Categories, or both.
The problem we used to have was when you string together a series of Categories in a playlist, say Animals, Action Words, and Things at Home, and you set the playlist order settings to "Random", LR would randomize amongst all 3 categories, so the eventual playback may end up like clap, dog, run, bed, cat, etc.
Some of you may like that, but most would prefer randomizing within the Categories only, and keeping the words within a Category together.
SO, what we've done with v1.5 is to change the way the Playlist's "Order" settings work:
1. Where you have an entire Category added into a Playlist, LR will use the order settings that was set with that Category.
2. The Playlist's Order settings will apply only to single words, and between different Categories where you have multiple Categories.
For example:
Say a playlist contains Catg1, Catg2, word1, word2.
If Playlist order is set to "according to list", then it will play back in the above order, but when playing back Catg1 and Catg2, it will defer to the order settings there, which may be random or according to list too.
If Playlist order is set to "random", then it may playback as word1, Catg2, word2, Catg1, but likewise, when playing back Catg1 and Catg2, it will defer to the order settings there.
Note: Previously-created playlists
Previously, when Categories could not have their playback settings saved, many of us (including BrillKids) would create a playlist which consists of just one (entire) Category simply to deliver the content with saved playback settings, and these would be uploaded as .pl files in the Forum.
So firstly, since v1.5 now allows individual Category playback settings to be saved with the Category, we no longer need to publish playlists (.pl files) if it's just a single Category, but just .cat files.
Secondly, you will find now that even if you change the order settings of such playlists, there will be NO DIFFERENCE when you play it back. And that's because LR is now looking at the Category's playback order settings. So what you need to change is the Category's settings. Actually, in the above case, you should just delete these playlists and play back the Categories directly instead.
Hope that makes sense!
