Yes, it really depends on where you live. Each state is different and within the state each school district is different. Yes, even each school within a district varies. Charter schools are sometimes a good option for public schools as mom2bee mentioned. If my husband and I still live where we are when my son goes to school there is no way we will send him to a public school. But if we move just a little ways away we will. I think you could maybe contact the school district to ask about their gifted programs/acceleration policies. Sorry for the non-answer.
