Hi everyone! Which do you prefer for your child, private or public school(here in the US)?

I'm in the US and I have to say that the descrepancys between each and every private school is too large to answer in any way, shape or form that could be narrowed down to just 2 options.

You have good schools, big, medium and small and you have horrible schools, big medium and small. In side each school you will have good administrators with lousy staff or vice versa. It could be only 1 good teacher in a horrible school or 1 horrible teacher at an otherwise perfect school. There really is no way to answer that. Now if you were to talk about your area a little, maybe members in the same region could help you decide about the best schools in your area.

Many cities also have charter and alternative schools available these days also so you may not have only 2 options. Schools even with in the same district can vary. You can have good administrators and teachers with lousy or little resources. You can have a great enrichment program at one school and no nurses on staff or all sorts of situations that go into weighing the pros and cons of each.

Yes, it really depends on where you live.  Each state is different and within the state each school district is different.  Yes, even each school within a district varies.  Charter schools are sometimes a good option for public schools as mom2bee mentioned.  If my husband and I still live where we are when my son goes to school there is no way we will send him to a public school.   But if we move just a little ways away we will.  I think you could maybe contact the school district to ask about their gifted programs/acceleration policies.  Sorry for the non-answer.
