I was in your shoes exactly. Yes, you can make it work. I did it With a few upgrades and 2 new software programs.
I bought the deluxe program and was really excited. Then i realized not mac friendly. Rats!!!
i really wanted the programs so I bought windows 7 home 64 bit. ( approx. $170?? )

.... I bought parallels... ( approx. $80 ??? )
had some problems. froze when i tried to customize. Actual playing the lessons- no problems at all.
then i tried boot camp...just too much work going back & forth because only one OS at a time.
I decided to upgrade from 250 to 500 GB ( approx. $120??? )
and
from 4 to 8 RAM. ( approx. $450 ??? )
Upgraded to newest OS snow leopard ( approx. $30 ??? ),
then a new parallels came out and i had just bought 5.0 so i got free upgrade to 6.0.
I'm not saying that you have to do all of that. I just wanted to do everything i could to make sure the LR & LM experience was as smooth and easy as I could make it.
Important Point... In my experience, I didn't have to make the expensive upgrades to use the program to run the programs. Yes, i needed windows and thought snow leopard was a good idea...so approx. $200. Then it worked fine on Bootcamp which i had already on my mac. Too much of a pain going back & forth so i use parallels.
I had problems when i wanted to customize anything. So i went the extra for the big upgrades.
Yes, i spent a LOT more than i originally thought i would when i thought it would work on mac.
Was it worth it????
No question at all. Yes! Yes! Yes!
However..... V2 is a much better all around program, see below, try it first with windows, snow leopard and parallels and i'm sure you'll be just fine. If not, then consider upgrading your ram. Faster is always better and RAM does it.
I'm Beta testing LR V2.0 and i'm loving it.

We're gradually building a really fantastic personalized learning program. Wyatt clearly, clearly pays more attention.
Brillkids are constantly working at making programs better and that makes them run easier with either boot camp or parallels.
GO PARALLELS. There are still some hiccups but i've already got 2 or 3 updates from parallels and Both Brillkids and parallels have a really good support system. Even though BK states they can't help much with mac users.
LR 2.0 beta is already truly fantastic and has changed our lives. Check some of my other posts to read about my journey to get here. Totally worth the money for program and the few upgrades etc.
