Semester 1 LR- Should the words flash tie with the multisensory?

Hi,

I've just bought the Deluxe LR and installed Sem 1 + 2 onto my laptop.

When i played semester 1- lesson 1 for my 4 months old son, the words flash shows basic words group eg, clap, wave, smile which my son finds quite enjoyable. However, going on to the multisensory within the same lesson, it not only shows the short clip/cartoon of the basic words group, but goes on to Parts of the body as well as Common Animals.

Is the curriculum meant to be this way? eg for multisensory portion to introduce more words/actions on top of the words flash portion? And will it be ok if there is no correlation between the subjects? eg parts of the body has no correlation to common animals.

If it is, is there any way to edit the amount of multisensory to be played? I do find it too lengthy to be played at the same time and I can also see my son's eyes glazing over and starting to lose attention by the time Parts of the body is over. I have tried to select the wheel icon for the settings, however, selections are all greyed off and not selectable.

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hi Poppyqueen,

Here is how it works.  Every day, 3 Categories will be shown, and your child will see 6 words from each Category, giving 18 words in total (btw, a Pattern Phonics Category is introduced later but let's leave that out for this discussion). 

This is true for the Multisensory lessons (lesson B) and Picture Flash lessons (lesson C).  It used to be also true for Word Flash (lesson A), but we decided to reduce the words by half (3 words from each Category, 9 in total).  To make it even out, the other 3 words (or 9 in total) that were not shown in Session 1 are shown in Session 2, so in 1 day, you will also see all 18 words in Word Flash.  In any case, Word Flash already shows 3 different Categories, if you look carefully.

So to answer your question, yes, it IS meant to be that way.  You must understand that every child is different. Some children find it too short, and want more after it ends.  Some don't.  And some are different at different times.  Tailor your lessons according to your child.  Please remember that there are no fixed rules in any of this.

Hi KL,

Thank you so much for your reply!I had tried showing LR to him again during the weekend, and he is now taking more interest in LR and can sit through the whole lesson with his attention affixed at the screen. Seems like it's a phrase which my baby is going through and he may just not be ready for LR at that time..

By the way, would you happen to know how would i upgrade my LR version from the downloaded trial version? I had tried inserting the CD rom to "add-on" semester 1 and 2 , but there is problem running the .exe files. So i'm stuck at Lesson 10 with the constant message of "upgrade to continue lesson"  . Would i have to uninstall the current trial LR version and reinstall the cd version of my LR?

Yep, children go through different phases all the time!

Re upgrading, first, make sure you key in the license key.

After that, putting the CD's in should auto-install the semesters.  If not, you need to tell us what is happening, exactly. What did you do and what did you see?

If your computer is having trouble auto-running the CDs, then use My Computer to view the CDs and look for the Little Reader (.lrp) files and just double-click on them.

Alternatively, download them from your account and install directly.
