Special need kids

The LR should include some teaching for the kids whose growths are slow. Some seperate section for the same should be incorporated in the LR.

How would you suggest we modify LR to cater for special needs kids?

From what I understood, Glenn Doman applied their flash card methods to brain injured children first, and used the same methods with well kids.

I was under the impression that the only difference is how fast you can go with special needs kids, but the process would be the same?

Can someone shed more light on this?

My son had a mild brain injury, and I was under the impression that you did flashcards with very big words (for vision) and perhaps increased volume and clarity, but the general premise was the same.

What different accomodations are you familiar with? I'm really interested in this, as helping brain injured children is a very important job.

I'm curious about this too. I have read What to do About Your Brain Injured Child & some of the other Doman books, but did not find a clear answer.

Well I would think the teaching would be the same but the part that is different is children with disabilities need more presentation with story telling about everyday events like what Jake is doing. I would think this is a section that could be expanded. I have discovered in an effort to help my grandson, that children with disabilities and parents with a desire to do early education are quite similar. We are still not sure if Colin has a disability but he is hitting the age where he will be considered speech delayed. I started this to help him. Wish I had found it sooner. He has made a lot of progress this last month since I have started teaching him sign language  & YBCR. Children with disabilities run into problems at an older age. At this age it is pretty much the same as what you are doing. The point is with early intervention and this type of training disabilities can be minimized or eliminated.

Can you giude me what do you mean when you say sign languageand YBCR .The sign language is it talking with you hands?   my grandson has speech delay can i help him with it?

YBCR is your baby can read videos there is a set of 5. They also help to teach them language skills not only reading. Signing Time is a set of videos which you can receive a discount on this site with your points, this also teaches language skills in addition to teaching signing. What is nice about these is they are multi-sensory and the kids like them. If I had to choose one I would probably recommend YBCR first. But if your child is older and very speech delayed singing time would be more important. My little one likes to watch signing time but not as much as YBCR. But signing time is good for you to watch if you do not know sign language because not only the baby has to learn it but the whole family has to learn it.

I have tried Baby Einstein and it doesn't hold his interest. YBCR is the best I think. He waits for the songs in the video like twinkle twinkle, head shoulders knees toes, eency weency spider. They have these songs spaced throughout the video to help keep their interest. So I have taken notes on doing this with him to get his attention for little reader. I play some song he is familiar with and likes and he comes running to the computer. Then quickly show him whatever else I want to teach him.

What does YBCR stand for pls? My children too have special needs and I am also interested. My elder son is 7 with autism and is non-verbal. He started saying his few words now. I use the picture exchanging communication with him so I don't think its necessary to sign. But me too have Little Einstein dvds and they aren't that useful. I have also a set called Teach 2 Talk which my girls love. These too have intermissions in between of visual sensory bits. Tell me more pls?
