I had the same issue. After importing the category file it does not copy the media files to the "Media Library". Here is a workaround (though this needs to be fixed).

Extract the contents of BK-LR-Semester1-Parts1-4.cat to a temporary folder. You can use unzip, 7zip program to do that. Write me if you could not do that.

Then copy the contents of "Media Library"  from this temporary folder in to your LR media library folder (on windows vista it is  C:\Users\<your-username>\Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Media Library). Then start your courses. :-)

If you cannot do this I can explain you step by step.

Hi Chloe,

What happens when you open/run each of the files?  What should happen is that LR should come up with a prompt asking you if you want to import that .cat file.  Do you see that?  What happens next?

What build are you using? (Under Help menu, select About Little Reader).  Also try downloading the latest version 1.5.207 from your Account Management.

Can you also create a System Report for me?  Under Help menu (not HELP button), select Tech Support, then click on Create System Report.  It will generate a file called something like "SystemReport-(date).zip" in your My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Data folder.  Attach that here.

babysweet, if you experienced the same problem, can you also let me know what exactly happens (or doesn't happen).

Thanks.

Hi KL,

I downloaded the file and imported it from the import tool. It did tell me the import was successful. But when I started lesson 10 onwards it showed me a pop-up saying something "Some media files missing, do you want to still continue". After looking in the the category file I saw all the media files that were reported missing so I simply copied them to the repository. This helped.

I did not try it opening directly from brillkids website, which would then launch the LR, since the file was several megabytes.

Since now the curriculum is installed properly I cannot reproduce the same problem.

Do you want me to try it again to nail the issue?

Hmm... if you did what I think you did, that means you don't see over 30 Categories under "BK English Course Categories Semester 1" and over 30 Categories under "BK Pattern Phonics" folders then?

After you download the file, you should run/open each of the files to do an auto-import.  Maybe the manual import is not working properly but you really don't need to manually import it, just double-click on the files to open/run.

Can you check and let me know?

Hi KL,

No change even after double click. In the Categories "BK English Course Categories Semester 1"  has only 4 entries and "BK Pattern Phonics" has only one. But "Courses" are all working fine.My LR version is 1.5.200. I will upgrade to 1.5.207 and check.

Thanks,
Raj

That means that for some reason your LR is unable to import .cat files.  It could be that another program has over-ridden the .cat file association so that it's not registered to LR anymore.

Can you tell me whether those 4 .cat files have a LR icon, or something else?  Can you also right-click on one and choose "Open with" and see what it recommends that you open it with?
If not LR, let me know what it recommends, then specify LR (as well as checking the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"), and see if LR comes up to intercept it.

If it does, tell me what happens.  Nothing at all?  Does LR do anything?

Sorry KL. My previous post was little bit confusing.

Actually .cat files are infact associated with LR. When I double click them they do launch LR. So there is no problem with associativity.

Category file was imported successfully without any errors. But after I started any lesson after day 10 (I think the first 10 or 9 lessons are preinstalled) it reported of missing media files as I have stated before in my posts.

I then upgraded the LR reader to 1.5.207 and imported it again by double clicking .cat file. Now this time time it took some time after reported me "User aborted import" - something similar. To make the courses working I had to manually copy the content s of "Media Library" in .cat files to the LR "Media LIbrary" as stated in my first post in this thread.

KL,

May be this could be an upgrade issue. If no one else have similar issues then I would recommend you not to waste your time since the LR courses are working fine with the workaround.

Thanks for you support.

ok thanks for the clarification.  But since you only have 4 Categories under the "BK English Couse Semester 1 Categories" folder, it means that the Categories were never imported properly.  (I presume you didn't uninstall your entire LR and library when you upgraded, but rather, you used the 'upgrade' option.)

Can you double click on them again and tell me exactly what happens?  Please describe everything that happens, so I know what stage it gets up to.  If there's an error message, like user aborted or whatever, can you please write it down? Better yet, please take a screenshot of it if you can.

Thanks.

You are right. I did not uninstall LR.  As I installed the new version it did ask me if I want to upgrade the repository. Since I want keep my own content in LR repository I did not want to uninstall the old version.

Is there anyway that I backup the old repository with one bulk export command and then make a clean install of the new version and then reimport the old repository?

It's quite simple. In the Export screen, just select multiple Categories by holding down Ctrl and/or Shift, then press EXPORT to export all of them as one .cat file.  You can do the same for Playlists too.

In any case, what's clear is that your import isn't working properly and I'd like to understand why.  Can you do what i mentioned last:

Hi KL,

That was it. After making a clean install everything works as expected. I could re-import old data as well. So the key for importing the 4 part curriculum is a clean install.

Though I would recommend adding a backup command/entry in LR which would copy all the categories and playlists to some predefined location which would be then re-imported automatically when one installs a new version. This would help users not familiar with installing/uninstalling computer programs to retain their old data.

Thanks

Glad it worked out, though still puzzled as to why you couldn't do it before, cos you should have been able to, like all others have.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion of the backup feature. This will not be an issue when v2 is released later this year.
