Hi to everyone,

I am a Spanish new user. I would like to make the Spanish version of the LR lessons which are in English. Is it possible to export them and then import them and add the Spanish sounds ?  I tried so but it did not work. Should then I make the whole Spanish curriculum starting from the very beginning or using previous files done by other users ? It is not possible to re-use the sounds and videos of the English version ?

Thank you !

You can't create a new curriculum.  Here are the options open to you:

1. Sacrifice your English curriculum and changing it into your own Spanish curriculum, but keeping all the same word file and media file names the same but replacing them with Spanish content instead.

2. Translating the English curriculum CATEGORIES content for your own use, by exporting the Category you want to translate, importing it back, but in the import options selecting RENAME for Category name conflicts and word file name conflicts.

3. Using the Playlists capabilities to do something similar to the curriculum.  You should know that the Curriculum feature is very similar to the Playlists feature, except with extra 'bells and whistles'.

4. Wait for our Spanish curriculum (but don't hold your breath waiting cos it may not be very soon!)

I exported each category, then imported it back and then started making the changes. I created the sound file for the word and then sound files for the phrases. I created a folder called " Spanish Curriculum" and have been saving the categories there. I would be more than happy to share with you the categories that I have translated already. I'm from Colombia, so there may be a few words that are called different in Spain. At this point I'm not sure if I'm going to create the curriculum following the Brillkids original curriculum format or I'm going to show the categories one by one. I'm afraid creating a day by day curriculum will take forever, but I may be wrong  unsure

FYI, My English curriculum hasn't been affected by the exporting-importing.

Thank you for both answers !

I will not sacrifice my English Curriculum. I think it is great and very useful, so I will try to translate the categories or I will use the playlists.
Joha... may be we can divide the job of making the Spanish categories and share our results !  Then the whole work would be divided by 2 !

Thank you again !!

Hi Napa!

I'm back! Ok, so far I have translated the following categories:

- Action Words Progressive
- Action words 1
- Common animals 1
- Parts of the body (head)

I will start again this week. So just let me knos how you would like to do this to see if we can get it done faster....

I think I can translate these categories this week:

- Action words 2
- Colors 1
- Common Animals 2
- Fruits

Again, I'm not sure if putting the curriculum day by day may take too long or we should start showing categories. What do you think?  unsure

Hi Joha !

I have just finished with "transportation". I will try to make "Food1" and "Meal time" during the week.
I do not think I will do the Spanish Course... too much job.
We can also have a problem with our accent...your pronunciation and my pronunciation can be very different...

It is very funny to do this work.
I folowed advice 2 from KL for creating the new Category and worked perfectly ! Thank you so much KL !

One more question Joha...

Should we mark the syllables of the words ? I have seen that sometimes the English word has two different colors !

Hope you had a good vacation !

Napa,

I agree about the course, it would take forever....

The two colors for syllabels is used with phonics, which brings up another issue and it is that we are going to have to do our own research about teaching phonics in Spanish because the words are going to be completely different. It is not going to be just translation. I would say, let's just stick to the categories and once we are done we can figure out what we want to do abotu phonics. What do you think?

I completely agree with you, but I am an engineer so I do not have any idea about phonics and I do not have too much time neither.  My wife studies Speech Therapy but she is French, so... We should also speak with the people of LR to upload our material as it is being done, so more people can take benefit of our work.

Did you make the course of Dr. Doman in Philadelphia ? Do you recomend it? We are currently living not too far away from there and we will be back in Spain in about one year, so I think it is a big opportunity to gain aditional knowledge. My wife speaks perfect German and French so we would like to teach the baby English, French, German and Spanish. We think that LR can be of great help and that Doman's course can give us some theorethical knowledge about how to do it.

Thank you for your advice !

That makes us two...not idea about phonics  LOL I'll do some research later on and I'll let you know what I come up with. I would love to share our files, but I'm not sure what they may think here sice they are thinking about releasing a Spanish curriculum. Once we have more files we can PM KL to see what he thinks.

I have not done Doman's course,  but would love to do it. If you have the opportunity to do it, go for it. I have heard great comments about it.

We are also trying to teach our baby German besides English, Spanish and Mandarin, but it is hard to find materials in German. There is someone here that lives in Switzerland and is going to start working on some files at the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to them. I'll be great if you guys can share some of your German materials once you have done some. There is thread here that have some information about links and places to find German materials.

http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-signing-speaking-foreign-languages/teaching-german/

How old is your baby? In your profile shows like your wife is pregnant, but I'm not sure if that was accurate.

Anyways, let's stay in touch and we'll keep each other updated regarding progress or questions.

Have a wonderful day!  smile

Hi !

Our baby is due for the beginning of November.  We are working also a little bit on the German lessons but now the French and Spanish ones are the priority. Concerning the German you must take into account that Swiss German can be  really very different to Standard German.

Have a nice week too !

Be in touch !

How exciting!  smile What a lucky baby to have parents so proactive about her/his education.  yes It is great you guys are preparing everything in advance, it can get pretty overwhelming.

Regarding the German, I though about the difference, but since it is so hard to fnd materials I felt I didn't have many options. She has been watching Muzzy that is German set of DVD's, but I really need to find something else...
