Why does little reader on the iPad contain much less than on the main computer??

On the ipad the games, split words, phonics etc are all missing but they're there on the main computer.  How can I fix that??

You can't. When Little Reader was upgraded to include all that extra stuff in version 3 it was only designed for the computer. They have not upgraded the iPad app version yet. I'm assuming because one is a apple interface and the other is windows based.

oh.  so there's no point having it on the ipad then?!  So frustrating because  ipad much easier for all sorts of reasons!

I'm not sure, if you PM Lappy or KL they may have a better idea. But the iPad version is still very good. That was what LR was like a year or so ago and MANY kiddies learnt how to read from it.

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm sorry to hear that you're quite unsatisfied with the iPad version which we have at the moment.

To explain, the Little Reader Touch app was developed as a "companion" tool for the Little Reader PC version - it will never really have as much features as the PC version since there are many many limitations in developing and programming the app on the iOS format.

Here are the things which it can't do in comparison to the PC version at the moment:
 - You cannot edit lessons
 - You cannot create your own lessons
 - Downloads from the online website library (http://library.brillkids.com) are incompatible with the app version (specifically because it's running on a different operating system)
 - The Games lessons aren't there yet
 - The new version 3 curriculum isn't implemented on the app yet

Given those, we are currently developing a new curriculum for the app which will be much closer to what our version 3 curriculum for the PC has. This will include your "missing" games, split words and phonics lessons, but this is still under development and may take some time to complete and bug test prior to launch. We will be unable to give you any date for launch, since - as all projects go - bug testing may either push back or delay any tentative date.

I hope that this at least makes things clearer on what the differences are between the iPad app and the PC version of our programs. And I hope that this short update on the development of a v3 curriculum on the iOS app will suffice as well.

Like Lappy mentioned Little Reader Touch is companion application to Little Reader, and as such it works beautifully for us for reviews and LR lessons on the go

 Our main lessons are done at Home at PC using Little Reader, and then when we go out or travel ( which we do a lot) we have LR touch for reviews. Of course it would be wonderful to have additional features, but even without them we really do not mind using the program.  Also if you are just starting with a very young child you probably would not even use game option that much ( at least we do not). And as waterdreamer said "That was what LR was like a year or so ago and MANY kiddies learnt how to read from it."

I understand and appreciate the explanation for the differences.

However, I would suggest that BrillKids should be upfront about these differences as many purchasing decisions are based on the information provided in the online store/advertising, which does not explain these curriculum differences and there is no trial version of the iPad version as far as I understand - or it wasn't clear to me that there was.

I, for example, spent money on an iPad, iPad cover and purchased the access for the iPad, none of which I am using now.

I also bought equipment (a PC) especially for LR as it wouldn't run directly on my Mac. I will definitely be getting an iPad for our LO when he arrives. I've seen how quickly little fingers master the touch screen.

Many parents on here make great use of their iPads, there are a lot of free or cheap ] apps for reading, math, language etc that fit in with what you are doing with LR. I hope you will find it was money well spent.

Little Reader Touch on the Ipad is excellent. We use it all the time. You can still use the whole curriculum.
The only thing one doesn't have is the games and your own lessons.
It is a fantastic app and I would recommend that anyone who has Little Reader to get it on the Ipad too.

Does not seem to me that difference is that dramatic as to not use the program and equipment altogether    Truly, the new version of LR (V3) was released just a couple of months ago, and with it came an updated curriculum, which is great, but we all used previous curriculum for months with our LOs with EXCELLENT results  And in some ways I still liked the older curriculum for the younger kids.

But like I said, now we are using both and love it! Hope it would work out for you too

Yes I also don't see the big deal. It is a $20 app. I think its a WONDERFUL app at that. And actually you are able to download the app for free and try it out with the free content BEFORE you buy.

Now - i downloaded it on to one PC, my iphone and my iPad BUT I need a 2nd full version available on a different PC so is it possible to unload it from my iPhone/ipad and put it on a 2nd PC instead?

I know it sounds like I'm full of computers...

Your Little Reader Basic (PC version and curriculum) comes with the license key which is valid for use on two computers. Once you have iAccess, you can also use it on iPad/iPhone and that would not take away from possibility to use it on 2 different computers from the same household.
