Hi happymommy4ever! We second what Evelyn2108 said - saving a back up (i.e., in LR's Tools > Backup/Restore Data screen) is recommended especially if you customized most of the words in your curriculum.
The Backup function basically saves your entire lesson library plus the media files included in it (if you choose to include media).
How to use the Backup function:
http://support.brillkids.com/hc/en-us/articles/204596154-How-to-Back-up-your-Entire-Little-Reader-Library-Note that there are two types of updates:
1. Software updates (i.e., for the Little Reader software itself) - Software updates won't overwrite your customized lessons in any way.
2. Curriculum updates - there may be occasional updates for some or all language curricula
Updates to the curriculum may overwrite your changes especially if you've replaced the original the voices / photos / videos in your curriculum. If your customized lessons were made entirely from scratch or from duplicates of the original words, then nothing will get overwritten when you update your curriculum.
In case there is a curriculum update, make sure to at least "export" the specific categories you customized (in LR's Tools > Import/Export Content screen) before you update your curriculum. After downloading the curriculum update, you can use your exported file to restore the edits you made.
