Mother Of Little Angel Qarissa..

Hi All,

I really want to hear from M'sian Parents & other country too. How do u all teach ur baby English? As u all know, M'sia using Malay Languange.

In M'sia, we have 3 main race. Malay, Chinese  & Indian. I can see that Msian Chinese & Indian have extra point in terms of languange coz they can understand & speak in at least 3 language - Malay, English & Tamil @ Mandarin. As for Malays, we only can speak in 2 language - Malay & English only.

Sad to say but this is the truth. Not all Malays can speak English that well. Not really fluent i mean .. that's y i open this topic so that we can share experience in teaching our child English.

As for me, i teach Qarissa by speaking to her in English all the time. Some times, I will mix it with Malay Lang but in one sentence, definitely there will be at least one word in English. I will repeat the words again & again so she understand more. Beside using flash card & all the education material, i always encourage her to watch PHDC @ Astro - 613.

Any other idea on how I can teach my little angel. Tq so much..

Hello geniusqarissa,

Responding to your question. As for me, I agreed what you said for the Malay ethnic.

But for the practicality, it is a liltle bit different here. We lived in UK and they used English as their languange. And as for that, as a foreigner here, I did speak English with my daughter when we have to such as when we are outside the house. As in the house, me and my husband do think that we need to preserve the Malay languange and identity to our children thus we speak Malay in the house.

We asked the Malaysian who had been living here permanently, and they encourage us to do what we are doing now because they said that the English languange can be picked up by the children when they go to school and in their everyday lives...fastly   big grin.

it can be seen here that the malaysian children, when staying here will speak English fluently although they does not have enough background but sadly, when the used English, they forgotten to use their mother tounge  Sad

maybe because of the different surrounding and environement, we try to adapt the best thing for our children and for me it is the other way around  wub

Hi hidayah,

its true enough. the conclusion is, its depends to the surrounding and environment.

Hi Hidayah & Qisdhi Mum,

Tq for ur feedback. Really appreciate it. Yeah, me too totally agree with both of u. It's the other way round @ UK.  smile . I agree that we need to speak Malay @ home  since our children can speak English @ almost everywhere they go...

I think PHDC @ any English Education DVD help a lot on polishing English vocab.. & since I bought the LR & LM already, I'll make sure Qarissa will read with me at least 3 times a day. Feel happy coz she loves LR so much especially when it come to animals sound. She even follow the intonations...(I'm getting excited & in the middle of "googling" the software...hope that in few days to come...i can share my file with u all.. hehhehe

Hi Luckymom,

In Malay words,to greet we can say:
Hai-it's same meaning to "Hi"or you can just say "Hello"
Apa Khabar-means 'how are you'

In Indian words,to greet we can say:
Vanakam-means 'Greetings to all'
Kaley Vanakam-means Good Morning
Maley Vanakam-means Good Evening/Good Night

Thanks Hidayah for the very good sharing...  blush

I also try to talk English with my children but not always, only sometimes and they can catch up all the term lately.. ehhe....  big grin

Anyway, frankly i use to talk in Malay more than English. So now my big bro got many vocab in Malay...

One more thing that i wanna share... last week, my husband participated the talk of Baby Sign Malaysia. And we apply it to our big bro (2 and 1/2 year)... We use English language to translate the sign and it was very interesting... He put the lesson in long term memory very well and fast...  wub  Actually Baby Sign is used for the baby from 0... but we just try it and it works...!!! nowink

Just add some greeting phrase in Malay word here:(maybe this phrase which the teacher had introduced  Wink )
Selamat Pagi-Good morning
Selamat Tengahari-Good Afternoon
Selamat Petang-Good Evening
Selamat Malam-Good Night
Salam Sejahtera-same means to 'Hello'

Hi Qisdhi mom,
Thanks for you help!
I will write down all and ask the teacher which one is it smile As we are not suppose to pen down any classroom activities and even if after class I check with her, she can only show me but I can't write down also. She is super strict. The thing is that I have very poor memory Sad I forgot things once I get distracted.
