Learning music through SoftMozart

Dear parents,

I would like to share our music experience using SoftMozart. My daughter started learning to play piano using SoftMozart at 3 year old. Here is a video of her learning to play Bouree by Leopold Mozart. We have been diligently using this Software for our home practice. Below is the youtube link to the video.

Thank you for watching the video. This Software is the best investment that I have made so far for my daughter and my 18 month old son. Without this Software, she would not be able to play this piece "Bouree" equivalent to Grade 2 music. I believe any children can achieve this result with practice using SoftMozart. I also encourage parents that use this software with their children at home to join "SoftMozart" forum and seek advice if having challenge teaching music.

The same girl play a piece from 'Nutcracker'. From the video we can see how she plays through color coding using the software and then proceed to memorize the piece and lastly play by memory with beat.

TT8, where is the softmozrt forum? How can we find it?

The forum is in http://www.softmozart.com/forum/index.html. Parents are able to get a lot of help regarding practice with young children, selection of pieces to practice and others. It is just like having a online personel tutor 

I also encourage parents to read "Soft Mozart Book" http://www.softmozart.com/our-library/soft-mozart-book.html. It mentioned the challenges of learning using traditional teaching and SoftMozart.

I just bought the software and has none music background. I don't know what it would be like teaching music without musical knowledge but I love teaching and want to give this a try.

I also can't wait to try Little Musician. I believe these two programs may compliment each other when it comes to teaching music to young children.

I believe you are able to follow the instruction from the SoftMozart curriculum without musical knowledge. Parents will need some time to figure out the commands of SoftMozart and initial set up. I also recommend have a laptop or computer just for piano lesson to avoid pluging and unpluging. Once you figure out the commands and set up, it should be pretty easy. Parents can sent videos of their child playing using the Software to get feedback from the Softmozart teacher. Feel free to ask any question about children home practice here or get help from SM forum.

TTT8, I have 2 computers at home but my DH makes sure I won't touch his so...   there goes my chance of avoiding all the pluging, and unpluging...

I will try to work around and get used to it.

Dear parents,

Here is another video of Rachel learning to play Blind Mice Boogie. Young children are able to learn to play piano and know how to use the commands on SoftMozart after seeing the parents use the commands a few times. In the middle of the video she choose to play with both hands by memory "PH" instead of "P" with the color notes.

Hello!

I am looking for a keyboard to the program SoftMozart..In my country(Italy) I've found some keyboards,but i dont no what is the right choise,what should  i by .I have to choose  from Keyboard Yamaha  YPT -220, Keyboard Yamaha  PSR-E323. and  Keyboard Yamaha YPT -310
Could someone advise me technically please?Thank you in advance.

I have Yamaha YPT320 61-Key Portable Keyboard. It was easy to install, has "grand piano" mode...

When I asked this question to Hellene at Soft Mozart, she said that it really does not matter a huge amount which keyboard you purchase, provided it has a midi connection to enable it to connect to the computer.  For young children, it is better not to have touch sensitive keys which can be difficult for little fingers to press.  We bought a 61 key yamaha ypt-220 and so far (only arrived a few days ago!!) it seems great!  There is some useful info about keyboards on the SM website.  I wanted one that was relatively cheap so that it did not stress me too much when it gets a bit of rough treatment!

Please also visit SoftMozart forum, as there are many mothers started posting their experience with their little ones. I agree with Izp11 that the keyboard does not need to be too complicated or expensive as long as they have the appropriate requirement like MIDI connection, without touch sensitive (not needed for beginner especially for young children age 2-5). I own a Casio CTK-571. See the requirement or recommended keyboard in this link.
